Key Responsibilities
The Chief Security and Safety Officer will be responsible for overseeing all security and safety operations across the University’s campuses. The key duties include:
- Departmental Leadership: Serve as the head of the security department, ensuring smooth operations and efficient service delivery.
- Advisory Role: Act as the primary security advisor to the University Management Board on all security and safety matters.
- Budget Management: Oversee the formulation, planning, and control of the departmental budget.
- Policy Implementation: Ensure effective coordination and implementation of University security policies.
- Strategic Planning: Develop and implement the security department’s strategic plan.
- Safety Promotion: Foster a culture of safety and security within the University community.
- Quality Standards Compliance: Ensure adherence to ISO 9001:2015 quality standards in all security functions.
- Security of Staff and Students: Safeguard the well-being of staff and students by implementing effective security measures.
- Security Intelligence Management: Oversee security intelligence systems within the University to mitigate risks.
- Investigations: Conduct thorough investigations on disciplinary matters involving staff and students as referred by the University Management Board.
- Meetings Participation: Represent the security department in all University security meetings across campuses.
- Training Coordination: Plan and organize regular training programs for security personnel.
- Security Surveys: Conduct periodic security assessments for all campuses to identify and mitigate potential threats.
- External Liaison: Establish and maintain collaboration with external security agencies to enhance campus security.
Qualifications and Skills
To be eligible for this role, candidates must meet the following minimum qualifications:
- KCSE grade C+ (plus) or equivalent.
- A Master’s degree in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or any Social Science from a recognized university.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or Police Science from a recognized university with at least 10 years of relevant experience.
- Training in Investigation and Security Management Systems.
- Must have served at the rank of Chief Inspector of Police or equivalent for at least 5 years.
- A valid Basic First Aid Certificate with demonstrated experience in first aid.
- A valid Certificate of Good Conduct from the Kenya Police.
