As we expand our impact, we are seeking a dedicated Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) Assistant to join our team in Nairobi. This role is vital in measuring the outcomes and impact of our programs, enhancing our M&E systems, and ensuring data integrity and effective performance monitoring.


Position Summary

The M&E Assistant will play a crucial role in measuring the outcomes and impact of RefuSHE’s holistic model, enhancing organizational M&E systems, practices, and tools. The role supports the Programs Manager in performance monitoring and reporting, including developing and implementing result-based management tools and indicators. Additionally, the M&E Assistant conducts monitoring and evaluation reviews and documents lessons learned to support donor reporting and performance improvement.


Key Responsibilities

  1. Development of Data Collection Tools
    • Collaborate with the Programs Manager and the programs team to develop data collection tools tailored to RefuSHE’s holistic programming using RefuSHE’s M&E software.
  2. Data Collection and Integrity
    • Lead data collection, cleaning, and audit activities.
    • Ensure maximum data integrity is maintained throughout all data processes.
  3. Onboarding and Training
    • Lead the onboarding of staff members to RefuSHE’s M&E software, Activity Info.
    • Stay updated with newly developed software features and provide ongoing training to staff on Activity Info’s functionality.
  4. Performance Monitoring and Risk Management
    • Track progress of outputs and outcomes against set targets.
    • Identify potential risks to achieving intended program outcomes and targets, and flag them to the Programs Manager in advance.
  5. M&E Plan Management
    • Lead the updating of RefuSHE’s M&E plan in collaboration with the Programs Manager.
  6. Data Analysis and Reporting
    • Analyze quantitative and qualitative data from programs and synthesize findings into well-written English for internal and external reports, presentations, etc.
    • Support in the reporting of program data and progress against indicators for all donor reports.
    • Facilitate the dissemination of results via presentations and reports to various audiences.
  7. Program and Proposal Support
    • Support the development of program and proposal M&E plans, including SMART indicators, baselines, and achievable and ambitious targets.
  8. Capacity Building and Troubleshooting
    • Facilitate greater understanding of M&E among program team staff by providing troubleshooting and advice as questions, challenges, and new needs emerge.
  9. Trauma-Informed and Culturally Sensitive Approach
    • Ensure all data collection activities are conducted through a trauma-informed lens, sensitive to the diverse backgrounds and unique experiences of the refugee young women and girls at RefuSHE.
  10. Policy Development and Compliance
    • Support the Programs Manager in developing an M&E policy for the organization and an overall M&E framework for the holistic model.
    • Ensure all data collection, storage, and reporting activities comply with Kenya’s Data Protection Act.
  11. Additional Responsibilities
    • Other duties as assigned to support the mission and goals of RefuSHE.

Key Qualifications

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree/Diploma in Sociology, with a specialization in monitoring and evaluation, or any other related studies from a recognized institution.

Related Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in M&E.
  • Experience working with refugees or vulnerable populations is highly preferred.

Technical & Behavioral Skills

  • Experience in the design, development, and implementation of monitoring and evaluation policies, systems, and tools with staff and partners.
  • Experience with programs supporting marginalized and vulnerable youth is strongly preferred.
  • Practical expertise in developing logical/results frameworks and defining indicators using SMART/CREAM/SPICED standards.
  • Quantitative and qualitative analysis skills with proficiency in data software packages such as Stata, SPSS, KOBO, or Epi Info.
  • Strong user of MS Office software.
  • Exceptional writing skills in English, demonstrated by the ability to produce high-quality reports.
  • High degree of attention to detail with a passion for data and learning.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • People-oriented and results-driven, with strong interpersonal relationship management skills.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills, with a high degree of self-sufficiency and initiative.
  • Ability to remain flexible in a dynamic environment and work well in a team.
