About the Role

UNEP is seeking a Finance and Budget Assistant to join its Chemicals and Health Branch within the GEF Chemicals and Waste Unit at its Nairobi duty station. This role is vital in supporting the financial and budgetary functions of the unit, ensuring proper allocation and monitoring of financial resources for various environmental projects.

Key Responsibilities

As a Finance and Budget Assistant, you will report directly to the Programme Budget Officer and be responsible for the following:

  • Budget Management: Assist in the preparation, review, and monitoring of programme budgets, ensuring accurate allocation of funds and compliance with financial regulations.
  • Financial Reporting: Compile and prepare financial statements and reports to provide timely updates on budget performance.
  • Transaction Processing: Process invoices, payments, and financial transactions while ensuring proper documentation and adherence to UN financial policies.
  • Expenditure Tracking: Monitor and analyze financial expenditures, identifying discrepancies and recommending corrective actions where necessary.
  • Contract Administration: Assist in reviewing financial aspects of contracts, grants, and agreements related to UNEP’s projects and initiatives.
  • Audit and Compliance: Support internal and external audits by providing necessary financial records and documentation.
  • Financial Data Management: Maintain and update financial records, ensuring accuracy and accessibility for reporting and decision-making purposes.
  • Liaison and Coordination: Work closely with internal teams and external stakeholders, including donors, implementing partners, and vendors, to ensure smooth financial operations.
  • General Administrative Support: Assist in administrative tasks related to finance and budget functions, such as organizing meetings, maintaining financial files, and responding to budget inquiries.
