Job Description
The Maintenance Controller is responsible for ensuring that production lines operate at optimal efficiency with minimal downtime through effective maintenance strategies and execution. The role requires a proactive approach to asset care, plant reliability, and team leadership, ensuring high-performance standards within the packaging plant.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Asset Care
- Contribute to the development of the asset care plan for the packaging plant, offering expert insights and recommendations.
- Support and oversee the implementation of the asset care plan, ensuring the Maintenance and Support (MAS) team, Production Associates (PA), and operational teams possess the necessary technical competencies.
- Execute the Predictive Maintenance Strategy, including the implementation of the Condition Monitoring program.
- Maintain accountability for the execution of the technical gap plan for the plant.
- Ensure compliance with audit requirements related to the asset care program.
Plant Reliability
- Maintain reliability and uptime of packaging equipment.
- Execute scheduled maintenance and extended maintenance work efficiently.
- Implement predictive maintenance techniques effectively.
- Ensure spare parts required for asset management are available on time and within budget.
- Ensure compliance with maintenance planning and execution of maintenance shutdowns.
- Coordinate and oversee MAS availability for scheduled maintenance activities.
- Participate in maintenance problem-solving and ensure correct techniques are used by the Packaging Engineering team.
Plant Optimization
- Assess the impact of new plant and equipment and recommend necessary changes.
- Maintain a solid understanding of plant operations and associated work instructions and procedures.
- Analyze plant failure modes, investigate causes of recurring failures, and implement corrective actions.
- Collaborate with production teams and engineering support to evaluate and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Embed continuous improvement into MAS team goals and ensure regular progress reviews.
Team Leadership and Management
- Lead the MAS team in a way that fosters ownership, empowerment, and collaboration.
- Develop and communicate clear team goals, ensuring alignment and understanding among team members.
- Foster a high-performance culture through regular goal review sessions, one-on-one discussions, and performance evaluations.
- Conduct training needs analysis and develop training plans for team members.
- Ensure competency development and promote multi-skilling within the packaging department.
- Manage outsourced maintenance services, ensuring service quality, reliability, and adherence to contractual agreements and on-site conduct standards.
Safety and Housekeeping
- Ensure adherence to proper safety and housekeeping protocols, complying with all legal requirements.
- Uphold CCBA and legislative policies, including Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Act regulations.
- Conduct statutory and mandatory checks as part of the asset care management system, ensuring documentation is completed and recorded.
- Prioritize health, safety, and housekeeping through regular checks, audits, and monthly/quarterly safety meetings.
- Identify and correct unsafe work practices within the maintenance team.
Skills, Experience & Education
Education:
- Minimum: Diploma in Mechanical and/or Electrical Engineering or a relevant field.
- Added Advantage: Degree in Electrical Engineering.
Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years of maintenance experience.
- 5 years of experience in the maintenance of packaging equipment.
