INTRODUCTION

The Kenya Electricity Transmission Company Limited (KETRACO) is a 100% state-owned corporation established on December 2, 2008, under the Companies Act, Cap 486. It was created as a State Corporation under the Sessional Paper No. 4 of 2004 on Energy. KETRACO is mandated to plan, design, construct, own, operate, and maintain high-voltage electricity transmission grids and regional power interconnectors.

KETRACO’s vision is to provide a stable power grid that will transform lives within the region and beyond. The mission of the company is to offer a stable electricity grid and facilitate power trade for sustainable socio-economic development.

To achieve this mandate, the company invites applications from qualified individuals to fill the following positions:


1. GRADUATE ENGINEER, ELECTRICAL DESIGN (KET 6) – ONE (1) POSITION

Employment Type: Permanent and Pensionable
Reporting to: Senior Engineer, Electrical Design

Job Purpose

The position is responsible for assisting in substation and transmission line projects by handling all electrical engineering-related works for a reliable, efficient, and effective electricity transmission infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

i) Implement quality control measures related to substations and transmission lines during procurement, design, and commissioning of projects.
ii) Participate in designing and reviewing transmission line and substation projects in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
iii) Assist in monitoring the implementation of approved designs and specifications for substation and transmission line projects.
iv) Support the enhancement of project quality by adopting applicable standards, manuals, codes, and methodologies during project design.
v) Assist in implementing technical guidelines and standards for substation and transmission line designs and preparation of bidding documents.
vi) Collaborate with local and international design consultants for outsourced design services.
vii) Prepare periodic design status reports for the Senior Engineer or Manager, Electrical Design.
viii) Review technical substation and transmission line engineering information to ensure projects comply with engineering standards, codes, and specifications.
ix) Implement document control and archiving processes for approved and as-built design documents and test reports.
x) Review consultant designs to ensure alignment with company and international standards.
xi) Participate in design interface meetings with consultants and contractors.
xii) Engage in Factory Acceptance Tests, material testing, and final acceptance of transmission line and substation projects.
xiii) Supervise and coordinate site testing and acceptance of substations and transmission lines.
xiv) Ensure compliance with relevant acts, including the Energy Act, Procurement Act, Engineers Act, Environmental Act, and Health and Safety Act.

Working Conditions

  • Office setting with periodic field visits.

MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL POSITIONS

Applicants MUST provide the following documents at the application stage:

ii) A detailed Curriculum Vitae (CV) with current and previous employers, positions held, levels of education, current and expected salary, notice period required, and names of at least three professional referees.
iii) Copies of academic and professional certificates.
iv) A copy of a valid National Identification Card or Passport.

CHAPTER SIX COMPLIANCE

Successful candidates will be required to present the following clearance certificates:

a) Valid Certificate of Good Conduct from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.
b) Valid Clearance Certificate from the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB).
c) Valid Tax Compliance Certificate from the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA).
d) Current Clearance from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).
e) Current Credit Reference Bureau (CRB) report.
