KEMRI Hiring Agriculture Trainer Coordinator – Migori County

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Agriculture Trainer Coordinator to lead agricultural training and demonstration farm activities in Migori County. The successful candidate will be responsible for training farm trainers and study participants, supervising demonstration farms, and ensuring the smooth implementation of agricultural activities within the study framework.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement agricultural training components, including preparing training manuals.
  • Identify and oversee the preparation of suitable demonstration farms within the community.
  • Train farm trainers in the theory and practice of vegetable production to enhance nutrition and income generation for participants.
  • Supervise farm trainers and provide guidance to study participants at both demonstration and personal farms.
  • Ensure fair distribution of vegetables and seedlings to study participants.
  • Troubleshoot agricultural challenges such as pest infestations, diseases, and production-related issues.
  • Manage agricultural commodity supplies, maintain stock records, and ensure adequate supply levels.
  • Maintain proper documentation of all agricultural activities and submit weekly reports.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by study leadership.

Qualifications & Requirements:

Mandatory Requirements:

  1. Diploma in Agriculture, Horticulture, or Agronomy.
  2. Minimum of four (4) years of hands-on experience in the agricultural field.
  3. Strong knowledge of agronomy, particularly in cultivating high-value irrigated horticultural crops, including fertilization and pest control.
  4. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
  5. Fluency in both English and Kiswahili.
  6. Strong training skills, including communication, needs assessment, course development, scheduling, implementation, and evaluation.
  7. At least two years of experience administering community-based agricultural training in Kenya.
  8. Willingness and ability to work in Migori County.
  9. Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  10. Ability to work independently with strong judgment and resourcefulness, understanding local social and geographical landscapes.
  11. Ability to clearly articulate complex agricultural concepts to adult learners.
  12. Self-motivated, flexible, adaptable, and entrepreneurial.
  13. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  14. Good report writing and scientific communication skills.

Added Advantages:

  • Experience working with smallholder farmers.
  • Knowledge of Integrated Pest Management (IPM).
  • Familiarity with social media and technology for agricultural training and communication.
