Role Purpose
The Chief Transformation Officer (CTO) is a strategic C-suite leader responsible for driving a radical, technology-led transformation across Jubilee Insurance’s markets in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and Burundi. The role focuses on leveraging advanced technologies such as AI, blockchain, cloud computing, IoT, and Robotic Process Automation (RPA) to revolutionize insurance operations, asset management, and customer engagement. The CTO will also oversee the Digital/J-Hub, a center of excellence for digital innovation, ensuring that Jubilee remains at the forefront of technology in the region.
Key Responsibilities
Visionary Transformation Strategy
- Develop and execute the Disrupt East Africa 2030 strategy, targeting:
- 50% revenue from digital channels
- 30% cost reduction
- 100% customer digital touchpoints across the region.
- Benchmark against global disruptors while tailoring solutions to local market dynamics.
- Conduct regular market analysis to identify emerging technology trends.
- Align transformation initiatives with the company’s long-term strategic goals.
- Develop governance frameworks to track progress and ensure accountability.
Technology-Led Disruption
- AI & Machine Learning: Implement real-time underwriting, predictive claims analytics, and personalized asset allocation.
- Blockchain: Deploy smart contracts for microinsurance and transparent asset management.
- Cloud Transformation: Migrate legacy systems to hybrid cloud architectures (AWS, Azure) to enhance scalability and reduce IT costs.
- IoT Integration: Utilize IoT for usage-based insurance and asset tracking in high-risk regions.
- Open API Ecosystem: Partner with InsurTech and FinTech startups for seamless integrations.
- Cybersecurity: Strengthen cybersecurity frameworks to ensure compliance with regional data protection laws.
Digital Ecosystem Development
- Launch One Jubilee, a unified digital platform integrating insurance and asset management on mobile and web.
- Scale microinsurance offerings via USSD and WhatsApp to target underserved customers.
- Develop a gamified customer app with rewards for engagement, inspired by global models like Vitality (Discovery).
- Establish a digital marketplace for insurance and investment products.
- Enhance digital onboarding to enable customer acquisition in under 10 minutes.
- Implement AI-powered chatbots for 24/7 customer support.
Operational Reinvention
- Reengineer end-to-end processes to:
- Reduce policy issuance time to under 5 minutes.
- Enable 24-hour claims payouts.
- Optimize asset rebalancing using RPA for real-time efficiency.
- Implement an Agile Operating Model across underwriting, claims, and investments.
- Establish a centralized operations hub to standardize processes across the region.
Data-Driven Transformation
- Build a Transformation Data Office to leverage big data, satellite imagery, and mobile usage patterns.
- Improve loss ratios by 60% through predictive analytics for claims fraud detection.
- Enable self-service dashboards (Tableau, Power BI) for data-driven decision-making.
- Develop a data governance framework to ensure quality, security, and compliance.
RPA & Automation Leadership
- Oversee the deployment of RPA to streamline underwriting, claims processing, and customer service.
- Target 100% automation of back-office functions by 2027.
- Establish a Centre of Excellence (CoE) for RPA, driving innovation and best practices.
- Monitor automation ROI and report efficiency gains to the Board.
Digital/J-Hub Leadership
- Lead Digital/J-Hub, a center of excellence for digital innovation.
- Drive partnerships with startups, fintechs, and tech partners to co-create solutions tailored to each market.
- Foster a culture of rapid prototyping and digital experimentation.
Workforce & Cultural Transformation
- Launch Innovate EA, a region-wide program featuring hackathons, tech boot camps, and cross-border innovation exchanges.
- Upskill employees in digital literacy, AI tools, and data analytics within 18 months.
- Implement a mentorship program to cultivate future leaders.
Customer-Centric Disruption
- Personalize customer engagement using behavioral data.
- Deploy multilingual chatbots in English, Swahili, and Luganda for digital inquiries.
- Create Jubilee Thrive, a regional loyalty program with premium discounts and investment perks.
- Establish a customer feedback loop to refine products and services.
Growth & Regional Expansion
- Spearhead regional expansion with a Digital-First strategy.
- Forge strategic alliances with telcos and fintech firms to embed insurance in everyday life.
- Develop market entry strategies for new East African countries.
Sustainability & ESG Integration
- Launch green insurance products and ESG-focused funds.
- Partner with governments and NGOs to insure climate-vulnerable communities.
- Reduce carbon footprint through tech-driven efficiencies.
Risk Management & Governance
- Establish a Risk Task Force to mitigate transformation risks.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory frameworks, including IFRS 17 and Kenya’s Data Protection Act.
- Report monthly to the Board on transformation metrics, such as tech adoption rates and customer retention.
