Kenya Power is dedicated to fostering youth empowerment by providing invaluable industrial attachment opportunities. This initiative is aimed at continuing students who wish to gain hands-on experience in a real working environment. The program enables students to develop essential employability skills that will help them transition into the workforce. These attachments will run for a period of three (3) months, from May to July 2025, and will be offered in various departments within Kenya Power.
Industrial attachment programs provide students with exposure to industry standards, technical operations, and administrative functions relevant to their fields of study. By participating in this program, students will have the opportunity to apply their theoretical knowledge in a practical setting, improve their competencies, and build valuable professional networks. This is in line with the Government’s commitment to enhancing youth employability through structured industry-based training.
Available Attachment Categories
Kenya Power is offering industrial attachment opportunities across a range of disciplines. The available categories are:
- Technical Programs: Open to students pursuing Bachelor’s Degrees, Diplomas, or Craft Certificates in technical fields.
- Non-Technical Programs: Available for students undertaking Bachelor’s Degrees or Diplomas in non-technical fields.
- Craft Certificate Programs: Specifically designed for students pursuing the following courses:
- Electrical & Electronics Engineering (Power Option)
- Mechanical/Automotive Engineering
- Building & Civil Engineering
- Plumbing
The program is structured to provide exposure to technical operations and administrative tasks, ensuring that students gain relevant experience aligned with their academic background.
Job Descriptions and Responsibilities
1. Technical Attachment (Degree & Diploma)
Students selected for technical attachments will work in engineering and related fields. They will gain practical exposure to the operations and maintenance of power systems, technical project execution, and troubleshooting processes.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in the inspection, installation, and maintenance of electrical systems, power lines, and substations.
- Participate in project planning, execution, and monitoring under the guidance of experienced engineers.
- Conduct technical data collection and analysis for project reports and system improvements.
- Assist in troubleshooting, diagnosing, and rectifying technical faults.
- Work closely with engineering teams to ensure the efficient operation of electrical and mechanical systems.
Qualifications:
- Must be a continuing student pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in a technical field from a recognized institution.
- Must have a valid introduction letter from the institution.
- Must be available for full-time attachment for the entire three-month period.
2. Non-Technical Attachment (Degree & Diploma)
Students in non-technical fields will have the opportunity to work in business, finance, human resources, procurement, customer service, and other administrative functions within Kenya Power.
Responsibilities:
- Support various administrative tasks, including data management, report writing, and documentation.
- Assist in coordinating projects and ensuring adherence to schedules.
- Conduct research and analysis to improve operational efficiencies in business processes.
- Participate in customer service, communication, and marketing initiatives.
- Assist in procurement, financial analysis, and inventory management.
Qualifications:
- Must be a continuing student pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in a non-technical field from an accredited institution.
- Must have a valid introduction letter from the institution.
- Must be available full-time for the duration of the attachment.
3. Craft Certificate Attachment
This category is aimed at students undertaking craft certificate courses in specialized technical fields such as electrical and electronics engineering, mechanical engineering, civil engineering, and plumbing.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in technical fieldwork activities, including electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and construction tasks.
- Participate in the maintenance and repair of electrical systems, machinery, and civil structures.
- Support site inspections, quality control, and safety compliance initiatives.
- Help with logistics, materials handling, and resource allocation in ongoing projects.
- Gain hands-on experience in troubleshooting and resolving technical challenges.
Qualifications:
- Must be a continuing student pursuing a Craft Certificate in Electrical & Electronics Engineering (Power Option), Mechanical/Automotive Engineering, Building & Civil Engineering, or Plumbing.
- Must have a valid introduction letter from the institution.
- Must be available for full-time attachment throughout the program period.
