Position: Appliance Technician – Refurbishment & Trade-In

Location: Nairobi, Kenya
Employment Type: Full-Time (3-Month Probation)
Reporting To: Managing Director, East Africa

Role Overview

As the Lead Refurbishment & Trade-In Technician, you will ensure that GreenBay delivers high-quality, certified second-life appliances to its customers. Your role will involve:

  • Conducting trade-in assessments at customer locations.
  • Overseeing the refurbishment process for pre-owned appliances.
  • Training and mentoring junior technicians.
  • Upselling and cross-selling during customer visits.
  • Maintaining quality control and compliance with GreenBay’s certified pre-owned standards.

This is a hands-on role, ideal for a technician with strong diagnostic skills and a passion for sustainable consumer technology.


Key Responsibilities

1. Trade-In Assessments:

Conduct on-site visits to evaluate appliances for trade-in, based on customer-submitted online assessments.

Validate appliance condition, functionality, and necessary repairs through physical inspection.
Clearly explain GreenBay’s refurbishment, certification, and warranty process to customers.
Identify potential upselling and cross-selling opportunities while interacting with customers.
Prepare detailed assessment reports on the condition of traded-in appliances.

2. Appliance Refurbishment & Testing:

Manage and execute refurbishment of traded-in appliances, ensuring they meet GreenBay’s quality standards.
Diagnose and repair faults in various household appliances, including:

  • Refrigerators
  • Washing Machines
  • Microwaves
  • Cookers & Ovens
    Replace defective components using approved spare parts.
    Perform safety and energy efficiency tests to meet certification standards.
    Document repair processes, parts used, and estimated labor times for each appliance.

3. Process Development & Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs):

Develop SOPs for:

  • Conducting trade-in assessments.
  • Step-by-step refurbishment workflows for different appliance categories.
  • Technician training on upselling and customer engagement.

4. Training & Mentorship:

Train and supervise junior technicians, ensuring they follow the correct processes.
Develop structured training programs for new hires and ongoing skill upgrades for existing staff.
Provide hands-on guidance on diagnosing appliance issues and customer interaction best practices.

5. Quality Control & Certification:

Conduct final quality inspections before certifying refurbished appliances for resale.
Approve product certification and ensure proper labeling of appliances.
Handle complex repair jobs requiring advanced diagnostic skills.

6. Inventory & Spare Parts Management:

Coordinate with the procurement team to source required spare parts.
Maintain accurate inventory records for used and newly purchased parts.
Build and maintain relationships with reliable parts suppliers to ensure availability of high-quality spare components.


What We’re Looking For:

Minimum 5 years of experience diagnosing and repairing home appliances.
✔ Hands-on experience with trade-in assessments and repairs at customer sites.
✔ Strong track record of training and mentoring junior technicians.
✔ Skilled in diagnosing both electrical and mechanical appliance issues.
✔ Experience working with brand-authorized service centers (Hotpoint, LG, Hisense, Samsung) is a plus.
✔ Knowledge of energy efficiency testing and certification is advantageous.
✔ Strong record-keeping ability using Google Sheets or Excel.
