Role Overview
WFP is working to diversify its funding sources and expand partnerships to ensure long-term sustainability in delivering food assistance programs. The Partnerships Development Officer will support these efforts, with a focus on humanitarian, social protection, climate resilience, and food systems work. The incumbent will identify new funding opportunities and support country offices in building and maintaining partnerships.
Key Responsibilities
Under the overall supervision of the Development Consultant, the incumbent will:
- Develop and implement strategies for funding diversification, mapping key opportunities and engagement pathways.
- Identify and scope new funding opportunities from government partnerships, multilateral funds, international financial institutions (IFIs), and the private sector.
- Collaborate with innovation and private sector partnership teams to explore alternative funding streams.
- Support HQ-led initiatives by sharing best practices, lessons learned, and contributing to knowledge management activities.
- Draft high-quality proposals and concept notes by coordinating inputs from different teams and country offices.
- Manage new partnerships, ensuring smooth agreement processes, compliance, and timely reporting.
- Prepare strategic agreements, memorandums of understanding (MOUs), and joint strategies to solidify partnerships.
- Contribute to the quarterly progress reports on funding diversification efforts and partnership engagements.
Deliverables
- Develop five (5) concept notes and proposals for country offices, supporting related funding negotiations.
- Draft a paper on diversification opportunities within the region, mapping potential partners and funding channels.
- Contribute to an HQ-led toolkit for funding diversification, including templates, guidance documents, and best practices.
Skills & Experience Required
- Minimum three years of experience in humanitarian and development resourcing, project management, or related fields, preferably in East Africa.
- Strong technical skills in project management and resource mobilization.
- Experience in proposal development, program design, and partnership building.
- Ability to monitor and report on funding initiatives effectively.
- Exposure to private sector partnerships and innovative funding mechanisms.
- Knowledge of food security and development policies is an added advantage.
- Strong diplomatic skills, public speaking, and presentation abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, especially Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
- Fluency in oral and written English is mandatory.
