Biovision Africa Trust (BvAT) is seeking a qualified consultant or firm to develop an informative, user-friendly, and engaging website dedicated to educating consumers about Agroecology/Ecological Organic Agriculture (AE/EOA) production, consumption, and market operations. The project falls under the Agroecology Promotion Programme (APP), funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).

BvAT is committed to promoting sustainable and ecologically sound agricultural practices that enhance livelihoods, alleviate poverty, and ensure food security in Africa. As global awareness of agroecology grows, this initiative aims to provide consumers with the necessary information to make informed decisions about AE/EOA products, promoting responsible consumption and a sustainable food system.

Job Description

The selected consultant or firm will be responsible for designing and developing a consumer-focused website that provides educational resources, engagement tools, and comprehensive information on AE/EOA. The project will be executed within 90 days, ensuring all features align with BvAT’s mission and consumer needs.

Scope of Work

The consultant/firm will undertake the following tasks:

  • Understand BvAT’s requirements and present user journeys, wireframes, database designs, and relevant APIs before development begins.
  • Develop the website in weekly sprints and deliver a fully functional site within 90 days.
  • Provide documentation to enable the BvAT team to maintain and update the website.
  • Offer technical support and handle change requests under a monthly retainer.
  • Develop a user manual and train BvAT staff on website management.

Key Features of the Website

The consumer website will include the following elements:

  • User Interface Design: A modern and visually appealing design with engaging visuals, infographics, and multimedia to simplify complex information.
  • Responsive Design: A mobile-friendly website that works seamlessly across devices (desktop, tablet, mobile).
  • SEO Optimization: Implementation of best practices for search engine optimization to ensure high Google rankings.
  • Interactive Features: Integration of a product directory, interactive maps of AE/EOA outlets, directories of service providers, and organic product resources.
  • Organic Product Information: Detailed descriptions of products, certifications, nutrition qualities, and benefits, supported by high-quality images.
  • Educational Blog Section: Informative articles on organic/agroecological farming, sustainable living, and product usage.
  • FAQs Section: A dedicated section addressing consumer queries about AE/EOA products, certifications, and related topics.
  • Social Media Integration: Links to social media platforms to encourage consumer engagement and experience sharing.
  • User-Generated Content: Functionality that allows users to sign up as content creators to share their experiences, success stories, and join discussion groups.
  • Newsletter Integration: A sign-up feature for a newsletter to keep users informed about developments in AE/EOA.
  • Multilingual Support: Content translation capabilities for regional accessibility.
  • Event Calendar: A calendar to track and display upcoming events in the AE/EOA space.
  • Survey Capability: A feature for conducting surveys to gather consumer insights.
  • Dashboard Reporting: A dashboard to display key indicators promoting AE/EOA adoption.

Deliverables

The consultant/firm will be expected to deliver:

  • A fully functional, responsive website with integrated e-commerce capabilities.
  • A structured home page and dashboard developed in consultation with the BvAT team.
  • Comprehensive documentation on all codes and systems used.
  • User manuals or guides for website management and troubleshooting.
  • A post-launch support plan for website maintenance and updates.

Requirements & Qualifications

Eligible firms must demonstrate the following:

  • Extensive experience in designing and developing informative, user-friendly websites.
  • A lead consultant with qualifications in web development and expertise in UI/UX design.
  • A minimum of five years’ experience in developing websites, including plug-ins, APIs for payments and map integrations, and UI/UX development.
  • Experience working with membership organizations is an added advantage.
  • Strong project management processes to ensure timely delivery within budget.

Evaluation Criteria

Applicants will be evaluated based on the following:

  • Technical Proposal: A clear understanding of the assignment, including a proposed project Gantt chart and key deliverables.
  • Methodology & Approach: A detailed plan on how the assignment will be completed.
  • Relevant Experience: Previous projects showcasing similar assignments, including CVs of key personnel.
  • Draft Work Plan & Inception Report Outline
  • Financial Proposal:
    • A detailed breakdown of fees and expenses.
    • Summary of commercial fees.
    • Period of validity.
    • Applicable taxes and other costs, if any.
    • Preferred currency for payment.
  • Company Profile: Demonstration of past experience with at least two samples of similar assignments.
  • References: At least three references from previous clients.
