The National Taxpayers Association (NTA) is a renowned independent, non-partisan organization committed to fostering good governance and public accountability in Kenya. Since its inception in 2006, NTA has pioneered programs that enhance the quality of public service delivery and the responsible management of devolved funds. Through social accountability tools like Citizen Report Cards, civic education, capacity building, and strategic partnerships with various stakeholders, NTA has significantly contributed to transparency and governance improvements across Kenya.
As part of its commitment to nurturing young professionals and equipping them with hands-on experience in governance, policy advocacy, and communication, NTA is pleased to announce internship opportunities in two key departments: Communication Internship (Nairobi Office) and Programs Internship (Kisumu Office).
These internships provide an excellent opportunity for recent graduates to gain practical skills and knowledge while contributing to the mission of NTA.
1. Communication Internship – Nairobi Office
Position Purpose
The Communication Intern will work closely with NTA’s communication team, contributing to various branding, media, and outreach efforts. This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about digital communication, social media management, and public engagement.
Key Responsibilities
- Strengthening NTA’s brand identity by developing communication materials such as digital media content, reports, publications, flyers, and posters.
- Developing, executing, and reporting on social media engagement plans to enhance NTA’s online presence.
- Creating innovative visual concepts that effectively communicate project goals.
- Ensuring all communication materials align with NTA’s brand and house style.
- Assisting with internal communication strategies for broad organizational outreach.
- Supporting institutional development through media pitching, website content, and promotional materials.
- Analyzing and optimizing social media analytics and advertisement performance.
- Managing online fundraising and policy influence campaigns.
Qualifications and Skills Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Media, Graphic Design, Marketing, or a related field.
- Proficiency in using social media platforms (Facebook, X, Instagram, LinkedIn) for engagement and advocacy.
- Experience with social media design tools.
- Understanding of how digital media can influence policy change campaigns.
- Self-motivated and willing to take initiative in projects.
- Excellent written and spoken English and Kiswahili.
- High ethical standards and ability to handle confidential information.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work well within a team.
Terms and Conditions
- The internship lasts for three months, with a possibility of extension based on performance and availability of funding.
- The intern is required to work three days per week under the supervision of the Communication Department.
- Applicants must have access to a functional laptop.
- This is an unpaid internship; however, NTA will cover any expenses directly related to the assigned work.
2. Programs Internship – Kisumu Office
Position Purpose
The Programs Intern will support NTA’s programs team in implementing various governance and public accountability initiatives. This role is perfect for individuals with a passion for policy analysis, stakeholder engagement, and development programs.
Key Responsibilities
- Supporting the implementation of project activities and field operations.
- Conducting policy analysis and contributing to advocacy efforts.
- Engaging with stakeholders, including government officials, civil society organizations, and community groups.
- Assisting in the writing of donor reports and project activity reports.
- Contributing to project budgeting and proposal development.
- Assisting in social media content creation and engagement for program awareness.
Qualifications and Skills Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Public Administration, Public Policy, Economics, Development Studies, Social Sciences, or a related field.
- Basic knowledge of data analysis and visualization tools.
- Strong ethical standards and ability to manage confidential data.
- Excellent written and spoken English and Kiswahili.
- Effective written, oral communication, and report-writing skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Self-motivated with a keen interest in governance and development projects.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team.
