Job Title: Underwriting Associate – Nairobi
Reports to: Branch Manager
Job Purpose
The Underwriting Associate will be responsible for vetting business submissions, ensuring only quality business is booked, and managing renewals efficiently. The role also involves maintaining underwriting records and trackers to ensure compliance with operational guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
1. Revenue Management
- Process and approve all quotations and tenders in consultation with the Branch Manager.
- Actively engage in cross-selling to ensure the branch meets the required business mix.
- Ensure daily debiting of all business received in the office.
2. Cash Collection & Liquidity
- Ensure that accounts on payment plans adhere to approved credit days.
- Maintain compliance with the company’s credit policy guidelines (40:30:30 rule).
- Monitor and enforce adherence to approved credit periods.
3. Loss Ratio Management
- Ensure proper documentation for new clients and business as per underwriting guidelines.
- Vet and rate all booked business to ensure compliance with policies.
- Submit daily claims reports and validations to the claims department at the end of each day.
4. Expense and Cost Management
- Oversee underwriting activities within the branch budget.
- Monitor branch-related expenses to ensure adherence to budget limits.
5. Internal Controls & Reporting
- Vet all debits for relevant documents and ensure premium receipts match policy requirements.
- Enforce compliance with internal audit controls and periodic process recommendations.
6. Talent Management
- Facilitate training on at least three non-motor products per quarter to enhance technical knowledge.
- Train staff on the system to reduce errors and improve efficiency.
- Ensure staff have active development plans at the start of the year.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university.
- At least three passes in ACII/AIIK or equivalent certification.
- Minimum of three years of relevant experience in underwriting.
