Mount Kenya University (MKU) is a chartered University committed to a broad-based, holistic and inclusive system of education.

The University operates from the main campus in Thika with campuses in Nairobi, Mombasa, Nakuru, Eldoret and Meru, as well as Open Distance and Electronic Learning (ODEL) administrative centers located in major towns in Kenya, Burundi, Somaliland and Uganda.

MKU invites applications from suitably qualified, visionary, competent, dynamic and experienced professionals with impeccable track record to fill the following Academic positions on a Part-time basis under the following category; Clinical Instructors.

Professionals only interested in supervision of postgraduate students and sabbatical are also encouraged to apply.

Qualification

To qualify for appointment a candidate must have the following:

  1. Bachelor’s degree holders in the relevant field with at least an Upper Second Class honors and be registered/registerable for a relevant Master’s degree programme.
  2. Must be registered and licensed with the relevant professional regulatory body.,
  3. At least 2-3 years of clinical experience in a hospital or healthcare setting.
  4. Prior experience in clinical instruction, supervision, or mentorship is an added advantage.
  5. Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills; ability to assess and evaluate students; proficiency in clinical procedures and patient care.
  6. Knowledge of clinical assessment tools, familiarity with university curriculum guidelines, and the ability to collaborate with healthcare teams and academic institutions.

Key responsibilities also include

  1. Meet with students at the beginning of each trimester to discuss clinical rotation requirements.
  2. Clearly communicate expectations for upcoming rotations.
  3. Serve as role models in professional and ethical practice.
  4. Supervise students to ensure clinical learning objectives are met.
  5. Assess students in collaboration with hospital co-assessors and submit assessment tools for documentation.
  6. Advocate for students and the university within clinical settings.
  7. Ensure students adhere to clinical rotation rules and guidelines.
  8. Coordinate trimester assessment schedules with the university.
  9. Follow up on required documentation and submit necessary forms to relevant departments.
  10. Liaise with hospital officers to identify co-assessors for student evaluations.
  11. Facilitate assessments in collaboration with relevant university departments.
  12. Conduct practical demonstrations of clinical procedures.
  13. Lead clinical training sessions in hospital settings.
  14. Guide students in conducting case studies as part of their learning process.

  • Kindly note that clinical instructors currently serving the University and wish to continue are also required to submit their applications through the same platform.

Terms of Engagement

  • Successful candidates will be engaged on contractual basis as Clinical Instructors. These positions will attract a competitive remuneration package.
  • Successful candidates will be retained in the Mount Kenya University database for a period of 6 years subject to satisfactory performance of allocated duties and responsibilities.
