Shamiri Institute is offering a unique opportunity for young people to become Shamiri Fellows, delivering impactful mental health and life skills interventions to high school students in Kajiado and Murang’a Counties.

  • Ngong (Kajiado County)
  • Kitengela (Kajiado County)
  • Kenol (Murang’a County)
  • Murang’a Town (Murang’a County)

About Shamiri Institute

Shamiri Institute is a youth-led organization revolutionizing mental health across Africa by integrating low-cost, evidence-based, and scalable interventions into schools and communities. Founded in 2018 at Harvard University by Kenyan entrepreneur Tom Osborn and global mental health researcher Katherine Venturo-Conerly, Shamiri has reached over 40,000 youths in Kenya through its innovative programming.

Position: Shamiri Fellow

Location: Ngong and Kitengela (Kajiado County), Kenol and Murang’a Town (Murang’a County)
Job Type: Full-Time (Contractual)
Target Audience: Recent High School Graduates
Contract Duration: 3 Months
Stipend: KES 1,500 per group session (KES 1,000 for facilitation + KES 500 for transport)
Expected Sessions: 10–20 sessions over the contract period

Job Description

As a Shamiri Fellow, you will be at the forefront of a life-changing program that empowers high school students with essential life skills and emotional support. You will facilitate a 4-week evidence-based intervention program developed by the Shamiri Institute, which includes training, supervision, and structured group sessions within selected schools.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate group-based intervention sessions with high school students.
  • Deliver the Shamiri life skills curriculum in a clear, structured, and engaging manner.
  • Maintain punctuality and professionalism in all program-related activities.
  • Attend and actively participate in supervision meetings and training sessions.
  • Accurately record attendance and session details.
  • Promptly report necessary information or concerns to the Clinical Supervisors.
  • Maintain confidentiality and promote the safety and well-being of all program participants.

Requirements

  • Must have attained a minimum KCSE grade of C.
  • Aged between 18–22 years.
  • Ability to reflect on one’s personal values, experiences, and attitudes and how these influence others.
  • Demonstrated interest in community work, youth mentorship, and supporting others.
  • Committed to the values, ethics, and mission of the Shamiri Institute.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and reliable.
  • Effective time management and problem-solving capabilities.

  • First-time Fellows only: This call is open exclusively to candidates who have never worked as Shamiri Fellows, whether directly with Shamiri Institute or with its partners.
