Job Description
As the Resource Mobilization and Grants Manager, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and leading fundraising strategies and managing grant acquisition efforts. You will engage diverse donors—ranging from foundations to corporations and government agencies—while supporting the organization in achieving sustainable growth and impact.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
1. Fundraising Strategy Development and Implementation
- Develop a comprehensive and diversified fundraising strategy aligned with VF’s mission and long-term goals.
- Analyze and identify funding opportunities across various donor categories including grants, CSR partnerships, individual donors, and other financing channels.
- Set measurable targets, performance indicators, and realistic fundraising timelines.
2. Donor Identification and Cultivation
- Conduct in-depth research to identify prospective donors whose missions align with VF’s initiatives.
- Design and implement tailored engagement strategies for each donor type.
- Maintain a robust CRM system to track interactions, donor profiles, and engagement history.
3. Grant Proposal Development and Submission
- Lead the end-to-end grant application process including ideation, writing, budgeting, and coordination with internal teams.
- Produce compelling, data-driven proposals that communicate VF’s mission and measurable impact.
- Ensure all submissions comply with donor guidelines and are delivered on time.
4. Grant Management and Compliance
- Oversee the organization’s grant portfolio, ensuring adherence to donor terms, reporting schedules, and compliance frameworks.
- Liaise with donor representatives to foster productive relationships and clarify expectations.
- Monitor grant performance and proactively identify solutions to any challenges or deviations.
5. Donor Relationship Management
- Develop and implement donor stewardship strategies including regular communications, recognition initiatives, and personalized updates.
- Prepare donor reports that highlight program achievements, outcomes, and impact.
- Coordinate donor site visits and events to strengthen engagement and transparency.
6. Partnership Development and Collaboration
- Forge alliances with like-minded organizations, including NGOs, academic institutions, and the private sector to enhance fundraising scope.
- Create joint proposals and collaborative projects that align with shared goals.
- Represent VF at donor meetings, sector forums, and funding consortia.
7. Fundraising Performance Tracking and Analysis
- Track fundraising achievements against targets using data analytics tools and dashboards.
- Generate periodic performance reports for senior leadership and board-level stakeholders.
- Monitor industry trends, funding cycles, and emerging opportunities to refine strategy.
8. Capacity Building and Team Support
- Facilitate training for internal teams on fundraising strategies and donor engagement best practices.
- Foster a culture of fundraising ownership across departments.
- Support program and operations teams in integrating funding perspectives into planning processes.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Marketing, Business Administration, Community Development, or a related field.
- A Master’s degree is an added advantage.
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in fundraising and grant management within the development or non-profit sector.
- Demonstrated track record in securing grants from diverse funding sources, including foundations, corporate partners, and government entities.
- Strong knowledge of the Kenyan and international donor landscapes.
- Exceptional proposal writing, storytelling, and communication skills (both written and verbal).
- Ability to manage donor portfolios, monitor compliance, and navigate donor relationships effectively.
- Strong analytical and reporting skills for monitoring fundraising performance.
- Proficiency in grant-writing tools, budgeting software, and presentation platforms.
