Position: Communications Intern

Position Summary
The Communications Intern will play a vital role in enhancing AMDA’s visibility and reputation across Africa and internationally. This internship is designed for a motivated graduate looking to gain hands-on experience in communications, digital content creation, community engagement, and event promotion within the context of sustainable energy development.
The ideal candidate will be a strong communicator with a passion for storytelling, social media engagement, and climate and energy issues in Africa.
Key Responsibilities
1. Content Development and Management
- Develop, curate, and manage compelling content for AMDA’s digital platforms, including social media, newsletters, reports, and internal presentations.
- Write and edit high-quality communications materials such as blog posts, press releases, and website updates that reflect AMDA’s voice and mission.
- Work with internal program teams to transform technical insights into digestible and engaging content suitable for a wide range of audiences.
2. Digital Communications and Social Media
- Manage AMDA’s presence across major social media platforms (LinkedIn, Twitter/X, Facebook), ensuring content is aligned with the broader communications strategy.
- Create and implement targeted digital campaigns to promote AMDA’s initiatives, policy wins, and member activities.
- Monitor, analyze, and report on digital engagement metrics to refine social media strategies and increase audience growth and interaction.
3. Community Engagement
- Build and maintain relationships with online communities and followers through active engagement, thoughtful responses, and strategic content sharing.
- Foster a vibrant online ecosystem around clean energy, minigrid solutions, and sustainable development by encouraging dialogue and participation.
- Collaborate with AMDA partners, stakeholders, and members to amplify sector-wide campaigns and initiatives on digital platforms.
4. Event Promotion and Online Outreach
- Support the promotion of AMDA-organized webinars, roundtables, and regional events through social media, e-mail campaigns, and partner engagement.
- Assist in organizing and coordinating virtual events, including managing registrations, drafting announcements, and designing event promotional materials.
- Provide live updates and post-event recaps across AMDA’s communication channels to maximize reach and visibility.
5. Internal Communications and Knowledge Sharing
- Support the internal dissemination of information across departments, including updates on social media performance, internal wins, and campaign progress.
- Assist with preparing briefing materials, reports, and summaries for internal and external audiences.
- Coordinate with departments to ensure consistency and alignment in messaging and campaign goals.
Preferred Qualifications
While this role is designed for graduates, the following skills and tools will enhance your success in the internship:
- Proficiency in design and content creation tools such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premier Pro, After Effects), Canva, and Metricool.
- Familiarity with social media scheduling and management tools like Buffer or SproutSocial.
- Experience with online communication platforms such as DocuSign, as well as newsletter/email campaign tools.
- Excellent writing, editing, and presentation skills in English.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multicultural team and fast-paced environment.
Additional Advantageous Skills
- Multilingual or bilingual proficiency (especially in French, Portuguese, or local African languages).
- Passion for clean energy, climate justice, and sustainable development.
- Previous experience in a nonprofit, energy, or policy advocacy setting.
