The African Population and Health Research Center (APHRC) is a premier research-to-policy institution, generating evidence, strengthening research and related capacity in the African research and development ecosystem, and engaging policy to inform action on health and development. APHRC seeks to drive change by developing strong African research leadership and promoting evidence-informed decision-making (EIDM) across sub-Saharan Africa.
APHRC is implementing a research project, titled “Foundational Learning in Kenya” study. The overall objective of this study is to investigate what pedagogical approaches teachers use in foundational learning, how teachers change their pedagogical behavior, and why they make certain pedagogical decisions during instruction.
APHRC seeks to recruit 66 qualified and experienced qualitative field interviewers who are residents of Garissa, Kisumu, Makueni, Marsabit, Murang’a, Nairobi, Narok, Taita Taveta, Turkana, Uasin Gishu, and Vihiga. The study will take place in May and June 2025.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Attend all scheduled training days and progress meetings.
- Mobilizing study participants as defined in the study.
- Consent study participants before data collection.
- Carry out data collection activities with target participants.
- Complete and submit all data collected within the agreed timelines.
- Compiling and submitting daily work progress reports to the immediate supervisor.
- Ensuring the safety of all assigned study tools and equipment.
- Work full-time on the project for the duration of the study.
Minimum Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree or Diploma in the field of education.
- Teacher professional experience (basic education and or teacher training).
- Knowledge and experience in MS Office and electronic data collection platforms.
- Experience conducting classroom observations or implementing literacy and numeracy programs will be an added advantage.
- Possesses strong interpersonal, communication, and interviewing skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
