Position Title: Clerk (Community Interviewer)
Location: Various study sites
Type of Contract: Short-term
Reports to: Study Coordinator / Research Officer
Key Responsibilities
The Clerk (Community Interviewer) will be responsible for implementing various data collection tasks within a designated study area. Key duties and responsibilities include:
- Identification and Registration of Participants
- Assist in the identification and registration of potential study participants in line with the study’s inclusion and exclusion criteria.
- Engage community members, local health facilities, and community health volunteers (CHVs) to support participant identification.
- Provide accurate and clear information to potential participants regarding the study to ensure informed consent.
- Protocol Implementation
- Ensure consistent and accurate implementation of the research protocol across different activities and timelines.
- Maintain adherence to ethical guidelines and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Follow-up Scheduling
- Schedule participants for routine follow-ups as per the study calendar.
- Maintain proper tracking of participant appointments, reschedules, and no-shows.
- Ensure follow-up visits are conducted in a timely and respectful manner.
- Study Documentation and Form Completion
- Complete all study forms accurately, thoroughly, and on time.
- Submit data electronically or in physical form according to study protocols.
- Report any inconsistencies, errors, or missing data promptly.
- Supply Management
- Monitor personal work supplies and request replenishments in good time.
- Ensure proper handling and storage of research tools and materials.
- Specimen Management
- Track specimens meant for laboratory analysis.
- Ensure proper labeling, storage, and timely transportation of specimens to the designated County laboratory in accordance with SOPs.
- Team Collaboration and Problem Solving
- Collaborate closely with research staff, data managers, and field coordinators to resolve challenges and field queries.
- Attend regular debrief meetings and escalate critical issues to the study management team as needed.
- Confidentiality Maintenance
- Uphold the confidentiality of sensitive study and participant information at all times.
- Ensure secure handling of participant records and other confidential materials.
- Program Meetings
- Actively participate in monthly program meetings and contribute to discussions on field experiences and operational improvements.
- Stakeholder Engagement
- Foster positive working relationships with Ministry of Health (MOH) staff, CHVs, and community stakeholders.
- Represent the study respectfully and professionally in the community.
- Other Duties
- Perform any other duties that may be assigned or delegated by the study management team in line with the study objectives.
Minimum Qualifications and Requirements
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet the following minimum mandatory and added advantage requirements:
Mandatory Requirements:
- Academic Qualification
- Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) with a minimum mean grade of D+ and above or its equivalent from a recognized institution.
- Computer Proficiency
- Proficiency in basic computer applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, and data collection software.
- Language Fluency
- Fluency in both written and spoken English and Kiswahili is required for effective communication with study participants and team members.
- Experience in Data Collection
- Demonstrated experience in electronic data collection using smartphones, tablets, or similar digital tools.
- Planning and Organizational Skills
- Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and meet strict deadlines.
- Communication Skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to relay information clearly and respectfully.
- Interpersonal Skills
- Ability to relate professionally with participants, colleagues, and community stakeholders.
- Teamwork
- A strong team player who is proactive, cooperative, and able to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team.
