Amref Health Africa is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Network and Infrastructure Manager to join its ICT department in Nairobi, Kenya. Position Overview
The Network and Infrastructure Manager will report to the Head of Enterprise and Network Architecture and provide technical leadership in developing and managing Amref’s ICT infrastructure. The incumbent will oversee systems and networks across Amref’s global operations, ensure the reliability and security of ICT services, and support technological innovation to enhance the efficiency of program implementation and organizational performance.
This is a strategic role that demands deep technical expertise, strong leadership, and the ability to implement high-quality, cost-effective ICT solutions in a complex, international setting.
Key Responsibilities
ICT Infrastructure Leadership and Support
- Manage and support ICT infrastructure for Amref Health Africa’s data centers and offices across Africa, Europe, and North America.
- Ensure reliable operations of all systems and data security across country programs and international offices.
- Provide tailored support and troubleshooting for complex and integrated systems, taking into account country-specific requirements.
- Coordinate closely with ICT managers and officers in different countries on technical projects, challenges, and deployments.
- Administer the headquarters’ data centers and deliver shared services to country offices, partners, and other stakeholders.
- Design and implement scalable, up-to-date ICT infrastructure across countries to support growth and technological transformation.
- Manage network and enterprise IT infrastructure including switches, routers, firewalls, desktops, storage, operating systems, data centers, and enterprise platforms.
- Configure and maintain platforms and configurations such as CISCO, UCS systems, VMWare, Windows Server and clients, Active Directory, SQL Servers, SharePoint, and Office 365.
- Standardize systems and ensure uniform procedures to reduce complexity and enhance supportability across the organization.
- Oversee the documentation of infrastructure, license agreements, modifications, change management, and upgrades.
- Plan and coordinate system upgrades and application deployments with minimal business interruption.
- Lead the design of optimized, standardized infrastructure systems across countries for consistency and performance.
Computing Resources and Access Security Management
- Optimize computing resources to meet immediate and long-term business needs.
- Ensure efficient allocation of storage, memory, processing power, bandwidth, and hardware.
- Oversee the administration of user accounts and system access permissions for organizational systems and services.
- Maintain operational security by enforcing proper access controls and permissions.
Vendor and Supplier Management in Solution Implementation
- Identify technical and user needs to support the selection and implementation of effective ICT solutions.
- Participate in proof-of-concept testing to ensure proposed solutions meet technical requirements.
- Define the scope of ICT infrastructure projects and ensure integration with existing systems and environments.
- Set clear expectations and contractual deliverables for vendors and service providers.
- Negotiate and manage service-level agreements and vendor contracts to ensure quality and reliability of services.
- Build and maintain effective relationships with suppliers and service providers to enhance ICT performance and cost-effectiveness.
Systems and Applications Monitoring
- Implement real-time monitoring tools to track infrastructure usage, system events, warnings, and alerts.
- Analyze performance data to prevent system downtime and data loss.
- Enhance tools to monitor server data storage, processing speeds, memory utilization, and network performance.
- Monitor and forecast network usage to support future planning and resource allocation.
- Use advanced tools for device management, software monitoring, patching, and configuration to ensure optimal performance.
Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity Plan
- Oversee the management of data centers, storage systems, and servers to align with disaster recovery and business continuity requirements.
- Conduct regular data backups and recovery testing across all systems.
- Ensure operational capacity is maintained during emergencies through proactive planning and on-site support where needed.
- Design and implement high-availability solutions to reduce system downtime and enhance organizational resilience.
- Maintain and document backup procedures, test restoration processes, and continuously improve recovery strategies.
Internet Links Management
- Configure, monitor, and manage internet connectivity to ensure reliable access to cloud and internal services.
- Secure internet gateways and resolve service degradation in collaboration with internet service providers.
Data, Application, and Information Security
- Implement robust security protocols across all Amref offices, including firewalls, centralized antivirus systems, and application security measures.
- Monitor and mitigate cyber threats by proactively sharing preventive security tips with staff.
- Publish internal resources securely for external access and continuously update threat detection and protection tools.
Quality Assurance
- Provide technical advisory services for ICT-related procurement by reviewing and validating technical specifications.
- Oversee infrastructure projects to ensure scope compliance and project success.
- Approve project sign-offs following comprehensive documentation and user training.
Technical Help Desk Support
- Serve as an escalation point for complex technical support requests from headquarters and country offices.
- Guide team members and foster a collaborative environment for knowledge sharing and problem resolution.
- Ensure prompt case resolution and coordinate vendor support where necessary.
Cloud Solution Support and Integrations (On-Premise and Cloud)
- Manage, deploy, and troubleshoot cloud-based solutions and hybrid environments.
- Support platforms such as Microsoft Office 365, Azure, SharePoint Online, Dynamics CRM, and Business Central.
- Facilitate seamless integration of cloud and on-premise systems for enhanced performance and efficiency.
Additional Responsibilities
- Provide expert advisory on systems management, security, and strategic ICT planning.
- Support procurement processes by offering insight into infrastructure needs and solution alignment.
- Maintain high standards of professional conduct and technical excellence.
