The International Centre for Reproductive Health Kenya (ICRHK) is a well-established and respected Kenya-based Non-Governmental Organization committed to advancing Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) through evidence-based research and intervention programs. With a strong legacy of working across communities and health systems, ICRHK’s mission is focused on addressing critical public health concerns including HIV and STI prevention and treatment, combating sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV), improving maternal and child health, promoting family planning, and enhancing adolescent reproductive health services.

ICRHK’s projects span research, advocacy, and direct interventions aimed at strengthening the health system and ensuring the availability and accessibility of SRH services for all, especially vulnerable and marginalized populations.

To support the implementation of ongoing research projects, ICRHK is seeking dedicated and qualified individuals to fill the following positions in Kilifi, Nairobi, and Mombasa Counties.

Research Coordinator (2 Positions)

Location: Kilifi & Nairobi Counties
Duration: 11 months with 3 months’ probation
Reporting to: HIV/AIDS/STI Technical Lead

Job Description

The Research Coordinator will serve as a central figure in the operational success of research projects by leading project management, overseeing field operations, and ensuring compliance with ethical standards and project goals. The individual will play a critical role in ensuring accurate data collection, coordination among various stakeholders, and the quality of research outputs.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage the planning, implementation, and completion of research projects, ensuring adherence to timelines, milestones, and objectives as outlined in the study protocols.
  • Coordinate and supervise field activities, including recruitment and data collection, ensuring quality and completeness of collected data.
  • Engage and collaborate with facility managers, healthcare service providers, and study participants to foster a supportive and efficient research environment.
  • Monitor project progress and troubleshoot operational challenges to minimize disruptions to data collection and study outcomes.
  • Ensure strict adherence to research ethics, institutional review board (IRB) protocols, and regulatory compliance requirements, maintaining up-to-date documentation.
  • Provide training and support to research assistants and healthcare service providers on study protocols, ethical conduct, and accurate data collection methodologies.
  • Regularly monitor data collection quality and integrity, flagging deviations from study protocol and initiating corrective actions as needed.
  • Prepare timely progress reports for submission to funding agencies, IRBs, and research leadership teams.
  • Serve as the point of contact for communication between field teams and central project leadership.

Research Assistant (14 Positions)

Location: Public health facilities in Kilifi & Nairobi Counties
Duration: 11 months with 3 months’ probation
Reporting to: Research Coordinator

Job Description

The Research Assistant will be a vital member of the field implementation team responsible for carrying out all research activities in accordance with the study protocol. The role involves interacting with study participants, data collection, and documentation of activities while maintaining the highest standards of ethical research conduct.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Gain comprehensive understanding of study goals and procedures to ensure accurate execution of field research in line with protocols.
  • Register and screen potential study participants, obtain informed consent, and assess eligibility for participation.
  • Administer questionnaires, conduct surveys, and collect data using digital and paper-based tools while ensuring accuracy, consistency, and quality.
  • Conduct in-depth interviews with selected participants, translate responses where necessary, and accurately transcribe and code qualitative data.
  • Maintain regular communication with the research team and provide detailed weekly and monthly reports on activities, progress, and challenges at assigned facilities.
  • Track and replenish supplies and equipment required for study implementation at field sites.
  • Implement study Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) with high levels of integrity and professionalism.
  • Collaborate closely with healthcare service providers and facility staff to ensure seamless integration of research activities with ongoing health services.
  • Respond professionally to questions from participants and community members regarding the study’s objectives and procedures.
  • Attend and actively participate in regular project meetings—both virtual and physical—to review progress and align field operations with project timelines.

Data Officer (1 Position)

Location: Mombasa County
Duration: 11 months with 3 months’ probation
Reporting to: Data Manager

Job Description

The Data Officer will play an essential role in managing and organizing research data to support data-driven decision-making and ensure the integrity of study records. The individual will assist in the daily operational management of study files, quality control processes, and digital data systems.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Enter and update study data in secure databases, ensuring data accuracy, timeliness, and consistency.
  • Prepare daily schedules by organizing screening, enrolment, and follow-up files in readiness for ongoing research activities.
  • Perform quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) checks on electronic case report forms (eCRFs), chart notes, and name charts to identify errors and discrepancies.
  • Manage printing and organization of CRFs and consent forms and maintain orderly arrangement of participant files in accordance with study protocols.
  • Maintain accurate and updated inventory records for data-related supplies and notify the team of procurement needs.
  • Facilitate data filing, documentation, and archiving processes in alignment with ethical standards and institutional requirements.
  • Continuously update participant tracking and linkage logs to facilitate follow-up and monitor retention within the study.
  • Collaborate closely with the Data Manager to prioritize and execute urgent data tasks and resolve technical issues related to data entry or storage.
  • Ensure the proper use, maintenance, and security of data collection equipment and IT systems in the data room.
