Job Purpose
The Data Science Lead will be responsible for end-to-end management of data initiatives within Optiven, from data governance and strategy to advanced analytics and predictive modeling. The role will support cross-functional teams by transforming complex datasets into actionable intelligence that enhances operational decision-making and drives innovation.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
1. Data Strategy & Governance
- Develop and implement comprehensive data policies aligned with organizational goals and relevant legal/regulatory standards.
- Design scalable data frameworks to meet dynamic business requirements.
- Lead governance processes to ensure data accuracy, consistency, security, and accessibility.
- Supervise the development and maintenance of a robust data infrastructure for efficient information storage, retrieval, and usage.
- Review internal processes regularly and recommend improvements for data management.
2. Data Collection, Processing & Analysis
- Collect, clean, and process data from various systems, including ERP, CRM, HR records, financial systems, and customer platforms.
- Use advanced statistical modeling and machine learning algorithms to perform complex data analysis.
- Create predictive models that support strategic business forecasting and planning.
- Translate data into clear, digestible insights for departmental and organizational decision-making.
3. Data Visualization & Reporting
- Design and maintain real-time dashboards and visualizations to communicate data trends and performance.
- Analyze patterns and generate meaningful insights for stakeholders across all departments.
- Identify anomalies and conduct root-cause analysis to inform corrective strategies.
- Generate regular business intelligence reports detailing performance indicators and key trends.
4. Data Protection & Compliance
- Ensure data compliance with GDPR, ISO 27001, Kenya’s Data Protection Act (2019), and other applicable regulations.
- Implement role-based access controls and monitor data security risks.
- Conduct quarterly data audits and maintain high standards of data privacy.
- Lead staff training initiatives to foster awareness and compliance around data protection.
5. Customer & Market Analytics
- Segment customer data and analyze purchase behaviors and preferences.
- Develop retention analytics to track and reduce customer churn.
- Optimize digital marketing strategies through web and social media data insights.
- Deploy AI-based forecasting tools to support long-term planning.
- Conduct A/B testing to refine marketing and sales campaigns.
6. Innovation & Continuous Improvement
- Stay abreast of emerging technologies, tools, and best practices in data science.
- Introduce innovative solutions to enhance analytics, automation, and operational efficiency.
- Automate repetitive processes to reduce manual intervention and boost productivity.
- Recommend cutting-edge systems and tools to enhance data capabilities.
7. Team Leadership & Collaboration
- Lead and mentor the data science team, promoting professional growth and technical excellence.
- Assign tasks, set goals, and monitor project delivery timelines.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning.
8. Other Responsibilities
- Perform any other duties as may be assigned by management from time to time.
Qualification and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in data science or analytics, with at least 1–2 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
- Certifications in data science, analytics, or data protection (e.g., Certified Data Management Professional, Certified Information Privacy Professional).
- Proficient in data analysis tools (Python, R), visualization software (Tableau, Power BI), and machine learning frameworks.
- In-depth understanding of big data technologies, AI applications, and predictive analytics.
