The Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) is a corporate body established under the Statistics Act of 2006. As the principal government agency for official statistics, KNBS is mandated to collect, compile, analyze, publish, and disseminate statistical information and ensure its safekeeping. Additionally, the Bureau is responsible for coordinating, supervising, and advancing the development of the National Statistical System (NSS).

KNBS invites applications from suitably qualified, experienced, and competent individuals with outstanding professional credentials to fill the following positions:

1. Senior Manager, National Statistical System

  • Job Title: Senior Manager, National Statistical System
  • Job Grade: KNBS Level 3

  • Number of Positions: One (1)
  • Terms of Employment: Permanent and Pensionable

Monthly Remuneration:

  • Basic Salary: Kshs. 169,380 – Kshs. 236,460
  • House Allowance: Kshs. 50,000
  • Commuter Allowance: Kshs. 20,000
  • Extraneous Allowance: Kshs. 30,000

Job Purpose

Reporting to the Director, Statistical Coordination and Methods, the role entails planning, implementing, coordinating, and monitoring all activities under the National Statistical System Division.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and update the NSS institutions’ register within the official data ecosystem;
  • Supervise statistical development and production across NSS institutions;
  • Oversee the formulation and harmonization of the national strategy for statistical development;
  • Supervise preparation of thematic statistical abstracts and bulletins;
  • Ensure harmonization and consolidation of statistical data across institutions;
  • Engage stakeholders to identify data gaps in the NSS;
  • Monitor and evaluate data quality within the NSS;
  • Guide Statistics Sector Committees in data production;
  • Lead the development and review of guidelines for designating statistics as official;
  • Initiate and revise the statistical compendium in line with international standards;
  • Sensitize stakeholders on harmonized statistical methodologies, concepts, and classifications;
  • Manage and build staff capacity within the Division;
  • Provide performance reports of the Division;
  • Perform any other lawful duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements for Appointment:

  • Served in the position of Manager, Statistics or equivalent for at least three (3) years;
  • Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Economics, Mathematics, or a related field from a recognized institution;
  • Master’s degree in any of the above disciplines;
  • Certificate in Strategic Leadership Development Program (minimum 6 weeks) or equivalent;
  • Proficiency in relevant computer applications;
  • Demonstrated skills in analysis, financial oversight, and human resource management;
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in team environments
