Job Title: Nutritionist
Main Duties and Responsibilities
As a Nutritionist at Mater Misericordiae Hospital, you will play a crucial role in patient care and overall wellness. Your key responsibilities will include:
1. Patient Care and Nutritional Assessments
- Participate in ward rounds, conduct thorough patient evaluations, and collaborate with medical teams to design personalized nutrition care plans.
- Assess patients’ nutritional needs based on their medical conditions, dietary habits, and lifestyle factors.
- Develop and implement individualized nutrition therapy to support patients’ health and recovery.
- Monitor patient progress, adjust nutrition plans as needed, and ensure appropriate follow-up care.
2. Nutrition Counseling and Education
- Provide one-on-one nutrition counseling to patients on healthy eating habits, dietary modifications, and lifestyle changes to enhance their well-being.
- Educate patients on disease-specific nutrition management, such as diabetes, hypertension, gastrointestinal disorders, and other chronic conditions.
- Develop educational materials and conduct nutrition workshops for patients, staff, and the community.
3. Collaboration with Healthcare Teams
- Work closely with doctors, nurses, and other specialists to integrate nutrition strategies into patient care plans.
- Provide expert guidance on special dietary requirements for patients with conditions that require tailored nutrition plans.
- Assist in hospital wellness programs, supporting preventive health initiatives such as weight management programs.
4. Documentation and Compliance
- Maintain accurate patient records, documenting assessments, meal plans, and patient progress.
- Ensure adherence to hospital protocols and confidentiality standards in all patient-related documentation.
- Stay updated on nutrition best practices and regulatory requirements, ensuring compliance with Kenya Nutritionists and Dieticians Institute (KNDI) guidelines.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition or Dietetics.
- Licensed Dietitian/Nutritionist by the Kenya Nutritionists and Dieticians Institute (KNDI).
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in a clinical or hospital setting.
- Strong knowledge of Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) and experience working with patients with chronic conditions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a passion for patient education.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
