Key Responsibilities:
As a Community Mobilizer, your role will involve planning, implementing, and coordinating various projects focused on child protection, gender-based violence prevention, and the empowerment of vulnerable communities. You will be responsible for engaging with local communities, partners, and stakeholders to create an environment that supports the well-being of children and promotes gender equality. Below are the detailed responsibilities associated with this position.
Project Planning and Implementation:
- Community Engagement and Mobilization:
- Mobilize and sustain meaningful participation from communities, local government officials, and partners in World Vision project interventions.
- Foster community ownership of programs, ensuring the involvement of relevant local actors, including faith-based groups, schools, and local organizations.
- Facilitate the formation and strengthening of gender-transformational groups such as Citizen Voice Action (CVA) groups and Girl Child Rights Clubs in schools, focusing on promoting the elimination of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and child marriage.
- Capacity Building and Training:
- Conduct training sessions for community members, including men and boys, to become champions of change in the fight against gender-based violence, FGM, and child marriage.
- In collaboration with the Cluster Manager, support the identification and capacity building of local Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) that will champion child rights issues at the grassroots level.
- Organize and facilitate Training of Trainers (ToT) sessions on Community Change Models and community intergenerational dialogues that address child protection and gender-based violence.
- Advocacy and Awareness Campaigns:
- Lead advocacy activities, working with community members, stakeholders, and partners to create awareness and generate actions towards the elimination of FGM and child marriage.
- Support the organization of Anti-FGM sporting events and talk shows to foster community discussions and raise awareness on the importance of safeguarding children’s rights.
- Collaborate with local media to develop and disseminate messages that promote child protection and safe spaces for children, focusing on key issues like FGM and child marriage.
- Children’s Rights Education:
- Conduct sessions in local schools to raise awareness about children’s rights and strengthen the capacity of child rights clubs in schools.
- Facilitate workshops and discussions aimed at empowering children to recognize and protect their rights, particularly in areas vulnerable to gender-based violence.
- Training Law Enforcement and Duty Bearers:
- Organize and conduct training sessions for law enforcement officers (police, chiefs, magistrates, and other local authorities) on their role in protecting children, especially girls, from gender-based violence and abuse.
- Collaborate with local authorities to ensure the establishment of child and gender help desks within law enforcement agencies for improved access to justice.
Quality Assurance – Monitoring, Reporting, Evaluation, and Documentation:
- Data Collection and Monitoring:
- Train change agents and survivors on effective data collection methods and tools to support evidence-based advocacy and duty bearer engagement.
- Work with local partners to ensure accurate data collection and case tracking for more effective responses and prosecution of perpetrators of gender-based violence.
- Support the use of Child Protection Information Management Systems (CPIMS) by service providers and community structures to improve case management and response.
- Project Evaluation and Reporting:
- Support the baseline and end-line evaluations of various programs, ensuring integrated Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) assessments.
- Compile and file activity reports, weekly plans, and other documentation for submission to the Project Officer and Cluster Manager. This includes quarterly and annual reports that track progress against key project indicators.
- Collaborate with partners to develop monitoring tools and assist in the collection and analysis of data to evaluate the impact of child protection interventions.
Strategic Engagement, Partnerships, and Networking on FGM/Child Marriage Prevention and Response:
- Networking and Stakeholder Engagement:
- Build and maintain strategic relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including government agencies, faith-based organizations, NGOs, and CBOs, to strengthen community-based child protection efforts.
- Support local advocacy efforts, including the development of county-specific child protection policies focused on safe spaces for children and the elimination of harmful practices such as FGM and child marriage.
- International and National Campaigns:
- Organize and facilitate the celebration of international human/child rights campaigns, including the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG).
- Partner with local CBOs to advocate for the establishment of safe spaces where survivors of gender-based violence can access both social and psychological support.
- Cross-Border and Local Surveillance:
- Support the formation of cross-border surveillance and referral mechanisms for child protection issues, working with local structures such as CUC/AAC and CP technical working groups.
- Collaborate with government departments (Gender, Children’s Services, Police, and Office of the DPP) to conduct sensitization campaigns and judicial service week activities.
Resource Acquisition:
- Fundraising and Community Contributions:
- Provide support and contribute to fundraising efforts for child protection and gender-based violence prevention programs.
- Mobilize communities to contribute to projects and interventions aimed at promoting the well-being and protection of children.
- Integrated Sponsorship:
- Ensure the successful implementation and monitoring of integrated sponsorship programs, supporting the long-term sustainability of child protection interventions.
