Vi Agroforestry, a Swedish non-profit foundation established in 1983, has for over 39 years been a champion of agroforestry, climate-resilient agriculture, and human rights-based approaches in East Africa. Through partnerships with local farmer organizations, civil society institutions, and government agencies in Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda, the organization supports smallholder farmers to sustainably improve their living conditions and promote environmental stewardship.

1. Finance, HR & Administration Officer – Kenya
Location: Kitale, Kenya

Reports To: Country Office Leadership
Job Purpose
This role involves managing financial and administrative operations at the Kenya Country Office, ensuring full compliance with internal policies and donor requirements. The ideal candidate will possess both technical expertise in finance and human resources and the interpersonal finesse to maintain smooth office operations in a multi-stakeholder environment.
Key Responsibilities
Finance Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate and timely bookkeeping records
- Manage payroll functions, ensuring prompt and correct payment of staff salaries and benefits
- Assist with preparation and monitoring of project budgets
- Ensure compliance with all donor financial reporting requirements
- Conduct monthly bank reconciliations and manage petty cash
- Support internal and external financial audits
- Ensure compliance with local tax laws, remittances, and statutory payments
HR Responsibilities
- Administer staff contracts, ensuring timely renewal and compliance
- Track and manage staff leave schedules, attendance, and absenteeism
- Coordinate staff welfare programs, team-building activities, and internal communication
- Maintain confidential and up-to-date personnel files
- Support recruitment processes including interview scheduling and onboarding
Administration Responsibilities
- Coordinate travel logistics for local and international trips
- Manage procurement of office supplies, stationery, and equipment
- Oversee fleet and vehicle maintenance, logbook updates, and insurance compliance
- Maintain inventory of office assets and equipment
- Ensure a well-organized office environment that supports productivity

2. Agroforestry Training Centre (ATC) Officer – Kenya
Location: Vi Agroforestry Kenya Country Office, Kitale
Contract Duration: Fixed-term, 2 years (Renewable)
Start Date: As Soon As Possible

Job Purpose
The Agroforestry Training Centre Officer will be responsible for designing, coordinating, and implementing training programs that align with Vi Agroforestry’s strategy of sustainable agriculture and poverty alleviation. The position also includes managing training logistics and developing partnerships to extend knowledge transfer to farmers and community groups.
Key Responsibilities
Program Design and Implementation
- Develop training curricula and materials in agroforestry, sustainable agriculture, climate adaptation, and natural resource management
- Facilitate capacity-building workshops, field demonstrations, and farmer field schools
- Implement knowledge-sharing frameworks for trainees to replicate learnings at the community level
- Evaluate and improve training content to meet evolving agricultural and environmental trends
Centre Management
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Agroforestry Training Centre
- Ensure proper use and maintenance of training infrastructure, including demonstration plots and classrooms
- Monitor attendance, participant feedback, and training impact metrics
- Coordinate with logistics and procurement teams to ensure availability of training tools, refreshments, and supplies
Partnership and Stakeholder Engagement
- Build partnerships with local farmer organizations, government departments, and other civil society actors
- Collaborate with technical experts and trainers from within and outside the organization
- Represent Vi Agroforestry in local workshops, expos, and community events related to agriculture and training
Monitoring and Reporting
- Develop and maintain databases for training participants and progress reports
- Collect qualitative and quantitative data for monitoring and evaluation
- Prepare and submit monthly and quarterly reports to the Country Office
