As part of our ongoing mission in West Pokot County, we are seeking a dedicated, passionate, and community-rooted individual to serve as a Community Mobilizer in Alale, a critical role in implementing advocacy initiatives and promoting the elimination of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and child marriages.

Job Summary
The Community Mobilizer will serve as the frontline coordinator for advocacy and protection interventions, playing a vital role in engaging local communities, partners, and stakeholders to eliminate FGM and child marriages. The successful candidate will support project planning, community sensitization, intergenerational dialogue, training of community change agents, and ensure sustained advocacy through grassroots organizations.
This position requires someone who is not only skilled and qualified but also well-versed in the cultural and social dynamics of Alale and can communicate fluently in the local dialect.
Key Responsibilities
1. Project Planning and Implementation
- Mobilize and facilitate community participation in project interventions, fostering active ownership and sustainability.
- Support the formation and strengthening of gender-responsive advocacy groups, including Citizen Voice and Action (CVA) teams and Girl Child Rights Clubs in schools.
- Identify, train, and support men and boys as champions for anti-FGM and gender-based violence (GBV) advocacy.
- Assist the Cluster Manager in selecting and building the capacity of local civil society organizations (CSOs).
- Train Trainers of Trainers (ToTs) on the Community Change Model and lead intergenerational dialogues.
- Mobilize support for World Vision models that tackle the root causes of child protection violations.
- Coordinate community sensitization events such as anti-FGM sports activities and talk shows for youth engagement.
- Conduct child rights education sessions in local schools and support the establishment of child rights clubs.
- Train law enforcement officers, chiefs, and judicial officers on child protection laws and the creation of gender help desks.
- Build the capacity of CBOs on gender-based violence response, evidence custody, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and civic engagement (CVA) targeting budget allocation.
- Collaborate with media partners to disseminate locally relevant messaging on safe spaces for children and survivors.
2. Monitoring, Reporting, Evaluation, and Documentation
- Train community volunteers and survivors in data collection, synthesis, and reporting for advocacy use.
- Support training on Child Protection Information Management Systems (CPIMS) for accurate case tracking and follow-up.
- Facilitate partner organizations in conducting joint monitoring visits.
- Participate in baseline and end-line evaluations, including Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) assessments.
- Develop and maintain accurate documentation: weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports to be submitted to the Project Officer/Cluster Manager.
3. Strategic Engagement, Partnerships, and Networking
- Build and maintain partnerships with church leaders, NGOs, CBOs, local CVA teams, and Income Generating Activities (IGA) groups to support anti-FGM and child protection initiatives.
- Participate in the development of county-level child protection policies, with input from relevant CSOs.
- Facilitate community participation in international campaign days such as the International Day for Elimination of Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG).
- Support local groups in creating and maintaining safe spaces and information hubs for survivors to access social and psychological support.
- Coordinate community surveillance, reporting, and referral systems to address child protection violations.
- Collaborate with local authorities and justice departments during Judicial Service Weeks, and disseminate policies like the Children Act, Anti-FGM Act, and Sexual Offences Act.
4. Resource Mobilization and Sponsorship Integration
- Contribute to fundraising and proposal development efforts for child protection projects.
- Mobilize community members for in-kind and financial support of project interventions.
- Support the implementation and monitoring of Integrated Sponsorship Programs.
Required Education, Experience, and Skills
- Diploma in Gender Studies, Social Sciences, Community Development, Anthropology, or a related field. A university degree is an added advantage.
- Minimum of 1 year practical experience in community mobilization, advocacy, or child protection projects.
- Strong communication skills in English, Kiswahili, and the local dialect of Alale.
- Valid motorcycle riding license is a must.
- Strong organizational and facilitation skills, with an ability to engage diverse groups including children, local leaders, and government agencies.
- Ability to work under minimal supervision and manage multiple stakeholder relationships.
