To support our digital transformation agenda and strengthen our IT infrastructure globally, we are now seeking an exceptional leader to take on the role of Director of Cloud Strategy and Operations. This strategic role will be pivotal in shaping the future of World Vision’s cloud environment and optimizing its contribution to our mission.
Position Overview: Director of Cloud Strategy and Operations
This is a high-level leadership role that requires a visionary and technically skilled individual who can lead the development, management, and execution of the organization’s cloud infrastructure strategy. The successful candidate will oversee cloud migration, platform optimization, and drive governance, security, and compliance across global cloud environments. This role demands an individual who thrives on innovation, cross-functional leadership, and aligning cloud services with organizational goals.
Key Responsibilities
1. Cloud Platform Strategy and Vision
- Develop a comprehensive, long-term cloud strategy aligned with the organization’s mission and digital transformation roadmap.
- Ensure the scalability, flexibility, and performance of the cloud environment supports evolving business and IT objectives.
2. Cloud Architecture and Design
- Oversee the architecture and engineering of cloud platforms, focusing on robustness, high availability, and scalability.
- Lead initiatives to design cloud-native solutions that facilitate modern application deployment models.
3. Platform Management and Optimization
- Manage cloud operations with a focus on performance, reliability, security, and cost-efficiency.
- Continuously monitor and improve platform utilization, deploying automation tools and optimization frameworks.
4. Governance, Compliance, and Security
- Establish governance frameworks to ensure compliance with global regulations (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA), organizational security policies, and disaster recovery standards.
- Implement and monitor policies to enforce cloud security best practices and data protection protocols.
5. Team Leadership and Development
- Lead, mentor, and empower a team of cloud architects, DevOps engineers, and infrastructure specialists.
- Foster a collaborative, innovative, and performance-driven culture within the cloud operations team.
6. Collaboration and Integration
- Partner with technical and business teams across engineering, DevOps, cybersecurity, and data science to ensure cohesive cloud integration across applications and IT systems.
- Ensure cloud platforms support CI/CD pipelines, DevOps methodologies, and microservices architectures.
7. Vendor and Stakeholder Management
- Manage strategic relationships with major cloud service providers (e.g., AWS, Microsoft Azure) and third-party vendors.
- Ensure vendors deliver to SLA standards and contracts are aligned with organizational needs.
8. Financial Oversight and Cost Control
- Manage the cloud operations budget, conduct financial forecasting, and lead cloud cost optimization initiatives.
- Develop and enforce strategies to reduce unnecessary spend while maintaining optimal service levels.
9. Innovation and Future Planning
- Keep abreast of emerging cloud technologies and incorporate forward-thinking solutions to maintain WVI’s technological leadership.
- Champion innovation, digital acceleration, and continuous improvement across cloud infrastructure operations.
Required Qualifications and Experience
Education and Certifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field.
- Advanced certifications are highly desirable, such as:
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert
- Master’s degree in a technology-related field will be an added advantage.
Professional Experience
- Minimum 15 years of experience in IT, with at least 10 years in a cloud or infrastructure leadership role.
- Demonstrated experience designing, deploying, and managing enterprise-scale cloud platforms.
- Proven track record in multi-cloud strategies, preferably across AWS and Microsoft Azure.
- In-depth knowledge of:
- Cloud-native development
- DevOps pipelines
- Container orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes)
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC)
- Platform security and compliance
Leadership and Soft Skills
- Exceptional team leadership and development capabilities.
- Strong project and program management skills—capable of delivering complex cloud transformation projects on time and within budget.
- Deep understanding of cloud financial management and cost control.
- Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with executive, technical, and business stakeholders.
- Strategic mindset with the ability to translate technical solutions into business value.
Work Environment and Location
This role is remote-first, open to applicants from countries where World Vision International is legally registered to operate. Current hiring focus includes:
- Karen (EARO), Kenya
- Accra, Ghana
- Home-based roles in the Philippines and Malaysia
