ADVERTISEMENT FOR THE RECRUITMENT OF PROFESSIONAL CADET OFFICERS, TECHNICIANS, AND ARTISANS INTO THE KENYA PRISONS SERVICE

The Kenya Prisons Service invites applications from qualified and eligible members of the public for the recruitment of Professional Cadet Officers, Technicians, and Artisans.

General Requirements for All Applicants

All prospective candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:

  1. Be a Kenyan citizen;
  2. Possess a valid National Identification Card (ID);
  3. Have no criminal record;
  4. Be aged between 18 and 28 years for Diploma and Certificate holders;
  5. Be aged between 18 and 30 years for Degree holders;
  6. Have a minimum height of 5 feet 4 inches (men) and 5 feet 2 inches (women);
  7. Be physically and medically fit;
  8. Have good hearing and clear vision;
  9. Female candidates must not be pregnant at the time of recruitment and during the training period.

Training

Successful candidates will be required to undergo intensive government-sponsored paramilitary initial training as follows:

  • Technicians and Artisans: Nine (9) months
  • Cadet Officers: Thirteen (13) months

Academic and Technical Qualifications

a. Professional Cadet Officers
Applicants must possess a relevant undergraduate degree from a recognized institution of higher learning.

b. Technicians
Applicants must possess a relevant certificate or diploma from a recognized institution and be registered with the appropriate professional bodies, where applicable.

c. Artisans
Applicants must:

  • Have a minimum mean grade of D+ in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) or its equivalent from a recognized institution; and
  • Hold one of the following qualifications:
    • Government Trade Test Certificate Grade I or II; or
    • Certificate in Craft or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.

Application Process

Interested candidates should complete the PSC.2 (Revised 2007) form, available for download at www.publicservice.go.ke, and attach the following:

  • Clear photocopies of academic and professional certificates;
  • National Identification Card (ID).
