The Kenya Prisons Service invites applications from qualified Kenyan citizens for recruitment into the service in various capacities. The recruitment exercise covers positions for Professional Cadet Officers, Technicians, Artisans, and Prison Constables (Male & Female).
1. Recruitment of Professional Cadet Officers, Technicians, and Artisans
General Requirements
Applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications:
- Be a Kenyan citizen;
- Possess a valid National Identification Card (ID);
- Have no criminal record;
- Be aged between 18 and 28 years for Diploma and Certificate holders;
- Be aged between 18 and 30 years for Degree holders;
- Have a minimum height of 5 feet 4 inches for men and 5 feet 2 inches for women;
- Be physically and medically fit;
- Have good hearing and clear vision;
- Female candidates must not be pregnant at the time of recruitment and throughout the training period.
Academic and Technical Qualifications
a. Professional Cadet Officers
- Must hold a relevant undergraduate degree from a recognized institution of higher learning.
b. Technicians
- Must possess a relevant certificate or diploma from a recognized institution.
- Where applicable, must be registered with relevant professional bodies.
c. Artisans
- Must have a minimum mean grade of D+ (plus) in KCSE or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
- Must also have:
- Government Trade Test Certificate Grade I or II, or
- Certificate in Craft or an equivalent technical qualification.
Training Duration
- Technicians and Artisans: Nine (9) months of government-sponsored paramilitary training.
- Cadet Officers: Thirteen (13) months of government-sponsored paramilitary training.

- Attach photocopies of academic and professional certificates and a copy of their National ID;

2. Recruitment of Prison Constables (Male & Female)
Qualifications
Prospective candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Be a Kenyan citizen;
- Possess a valid National Identity Card;
- Have no criminal record;
- Attain a KCSE mean grade of D+ (plus) or above;
- Be aged between 18 and 28 years;
- Meet the minimum height requirement: 5 feet 4 inches for men and 5 feet 2 inches for women;
- Be physically and mentally fit;
- Have good hearing and clear vision;
- Female candidates must not be pregnant at the time of recruitment or during the training period.
Training
Selected candidates will undergo nine (9) months of government-sponsored paramilitary initial training.
Recruitment Exercise Details
- The recruitment for Prison Constables will be conducted on 30th April 2025 at officially designated recruitment centers.
- Candidates must report to the centers with the following original documents:
- National Identification Card (ID);
- Birth Certificate;
- KRA PIN Certificate;
- KCSE Certificate and any other academic or professional testimonials.
Important Notice
- The recruitment exercise is entirely free of charge.
- Bribery, corruption, and presentation of forged documents will result in immediate disqualification and prosecution.
- Recruitment will take place only at officially designated centers, and only on the specified date.
