Kenya Red Cross Society Hiring Finance & Admin Assistant – Nairobi

The American Red Cross activities within the M&RP program have recently moved towards supporting routine immunization. Because routine immunization coverage has stagnated over the past 10 years, the American Red Cross has developed a new innovative program called the 5-Point Plan which, if successful, will help break the stagnation barrier and increase routine immunization coverage.

The Assistant Finance  Officer will support both the M&RP finance department in the American Red Cross Kenya Office and provide direct technical assistance to Red Cross/Red Crescent National Societies to plan and implement successful activities to strengthen immunization programs focusing on the newly developed 5-Point Plan (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UqpeIgs62s4). 

The position reports to the Finance and Administration Manager – MR&P based in Nairobi Kenya who may assign additional specific finance oversight responsibilities as needs dictate.

Duties Applicable to All

1. Work towards the achievement of the American Red Cross goals in the country/region of operation through effective support and lateral relations and teamwork

2.  Ensure understanding of roles, responsibilities, lateral relationships and accountabilities

3.  Perform other work-related duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the supervisor.

Responsibilities/Requirements

  1. Compile regular, accurate and timely Monthly Financial Reports complete with sufficient and adequate supported documentation for review by the Finance and Administration Manager, MR&P, Nairobi, Kenya, and upload on the share point including analytics.
  2. Support budget monitoring and ensure accurate accounting, authorization & internal control procedures. 
  3. Offer support and financial advice to the Kenya office staff related budget, allowable costs, payment requirements, and other financial procedures.
  4. Support the Finance Manager, MR&P, Nairobi, Kenya to prepare and review the finance sections of funding proposals for the National Societies and other partners.
  5. Collaborate with the Finance and Administration Manager, MR&P Nairobi, Kenya to train, support and advise the National Societies in the development of its financial and administrative systems including budgeting and internal control systems.
  6. Support with the review of the financial reports and support documentations of the National Societies and other partners funded missions. This includes field monitoring visits.
  7. Field visits the National Societies to support the Finance Manager during budget development, program implementation monitoring and as needed.
  8.  Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Lateral Relationships

1.  Establish and ensure effective working relationships with the other AmCross delegation staff, NS and PNSs counterparts.

2.  Ensure effective working relationships with technical and service departments at American Red Cross National Headquarter level.

Qualifications.

  • Professional University Degree in finance/accounting
  • 2 years professional work experience in financial management and reporting, audits, budgeting, and accounting.
  • Professional qualifications in CPA or similar qualifications would be an added advantage.
  • Experience of working with an accounting system such as QuickBooks, Navision, CODA
  • Experience of writing narrative & financial reports

Experience of commercial & contractual systems

Skills and knowledge

  • Advanced skills in computer productivity applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to drive manual transmission vehicles.
