Job Purpose
The Data Manager will be responsible for developing and implementing the organization’s data strategies, policies, and governance frameworks. The position supports data-driven decision-making across all departments at Optiven by managing data infrastructure, ensuring data integrity and security, and overseeing all aspects of data analytics, visualization, and reporting. The Data Manager will also play a key role in ensuring compliance with relevant data protection laws and promoting a culture of innovation in data handling and usage.
Key Responsibilities
1. Data Strategy and Policy Development
- Develop and implement data policies aligned with organizational objectives and legal frameworks.
- Design enterprise-wide data frameworks based on business requirements and scalability needs.
- Oversee data governance initiatives to ensure data integrity, accessibility, and proper usage across departments.
2. Infrastructure and Process Management
- Manage data infrastructure including storage, organization, and retrieval systems.
- Continuously evaluate data systems to identify process inefficiencies and recommend improvements.
- Ensure optimal database management using tools such as MySQL, Oracle, and SQL Server.
3. Data Analytics and Reporting
- Lead the team in conducting regular data analysis to uncover trends and generate actionable insights for key stakeholders.
- Develop and maintain KPIs to monitor performance and effectiveness of data initiatives.
- Provide quarterly business intelligence reports to senior management to support strategic planning.
4. Compliance and Data Protection
- Implement data governance frameworks in alignment with Kenya’s Data Protection Act (2019) and global standards such as GDPR and ISO 27001.
- Conduct regular audits to ensure compliance and manage role-based access control protocols.
- Proactively identify data security risks and develop strategies to mitigate them.
5. Innovation and Technology Integration
- Utilize AI-powered forecasting and automation tools to optimize data management processes.
- Integrate predictive modeling, machine learning, and data mining techniques to boost reporting accuracy.
- Evaluate and recommend advanced data management platforms and technologies that enhance Optiven’s capabilities.
6. Team Leadership and Mentorship
- Lead and mentor the data science team to maintain high standards of accuracy, integrity, and innovation.
- Assign projects, monitor task progress, and support professional development among team members.
- Promote a culture of data responsibility and continuous learning.
7. Additional Responsibilities
- Perform other duties as may be assigned from time to time to support organizational growth and strategic goals.
Qualification and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a closely related field.
- Master’s degree is an added advantage.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in data science or analytics, including at least two (2) to three (3) years in a supervisory capacity.
- Professional certifications in data science, analysis, or data protection are preferred.
- Strong technical expertise in:
- Machine learning and big data technologies
- Programming languages such as Python or R
- Data visualization tools like Tableau or Power BI
- SQL, Python, and ETL tools
- Cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud)
- Hands-on experience in AI, predictive modeling, and data automation.
