The Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC), a renowned State Corporation under the Ministry of Information, Communications, and the Digital Economy, invites continuing students pursuing Undergraduate, Diploma, and Certificate courses to apply for its upcoming Industrial Attachment Programme scheduled for the May – July 2025 intake.
KBC, established under the KBC Act (Cap. 221), is dedicated to excellence in broadcast services across Radio, Television, and Digital Media platforms. Through its Industrial Attachment Programme, KBC aligns itself with the Government’s Youth Empowerment Project by providing students with valuable practical exposure and essential job experience in various departments. This initiative aims to build a strong foundation for Kenya’s future workforce by nurturing talent, enhancing professional skills, and instilling workplace ethics.
Overview of the Industrial Attachment Programme
Duration:
The attachment programme will run for three months, non-renewable, from 5th May to 31st July 2025.
Eligibility Criteria for Intake:
Applicants will be considered based on the following:
- Field of Specialization: Relevance of course to the available departments.
- Corporation Capacity: Ability of KBC to accommodate trainees.
- Facilities & Slots: Availability of necessary resources and slots.
- Timeliness: Applications will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis.
- Year of Study:
- 3rd or 4th-year students for Undergraduate programmes.
- 2nd-year students for Diploma programmes.
General Requirements
To be considered for the KBC Industrial Attachment Programme, applicants must:
- Be in their 3rd or 4th year of study at a recognized university or 2nd year at a recognized college.
- Complete the online application form, clearly stating the preferred department of attachment.
- Provide a recommendation letter from their institution.
- Attach a copy of a valid National ID or Passport.
- Show proof of registration for the industrial attachment unit from their institution.
Attachment Opportunities Across Departments
KBC offers industrial attachment positions across its departments, where successful candidates will:
1. Radio Production Department
- Assist in audio recording, editing, and scripting of radio programmes.
- Participate in content development and scheduling for radio segments.
- Learn the fundamentals of sound engineering and live broadcast support.
2. Television Production Department
- Gain hands-on experience in studio production, directing, and camera operations.
- Support the editing team in post-production workflows.
- Observe and assist during live and pre-recorded shows.
3. News & Current Affairs
- Assist journalists and editors in story gathering, scripting, and video editing.
- Participate in field reporting under supervision.
- Learn newsroom operations and deadline management.
4. Engineering & Technical Services
- Shadow engineers in broadcast signal maintenance and studio equipment handling.
- Learn about transmitter systems and ICT infrastructure.
- Assist in troubleshooting and monitoring signal integrity.
5. Digital Media Department
- Assist in content creation for social media platforms.
- Learn SEO optimization for digital news pieces.
- Support the team in live streaming and online audience engagement.
6. Marketing & Communications
- Assist in planning and executing marketing campaigns.
- Support event organization and public relations initiatives.
- Engage in audience research and data analysis for marketing strategies.
7. Finance Department
- Support routine financial record-keeping.
- Learn about budgeting, financial reporting, and internal audits.
- Assist in processing payments and managing invoices.
8. Human Resource & Administration
- Assist in recruitment documentation and staff welfare programmes.
- Learn about HR policies, employee records management, and orientation processes.
- Support administrative functions including file management and logistics.
9. Procurement Department
- Participate in inventory tracking and supplier correspondence.
- Learn the public procurement process and documentation standards.
- Assist in maintaining procurement records.
10. Legal Services Department
- Assist in preparing legal documents and contracts.
- Observe corporate legal compliance activities.
- Engage in legal research and advisory support under supervision.
11. ICT Department
- Support IT technicians in system maintenance.
- Assist in troubleshooting user issues and network monitoring.
- Learn about software support and cyber security measures.
12. Archives & Library Services
- Assist in cataloguing and digitizing media archives.
- Learn metadata tagging and content retrieval systems.
- Support preservation and maintenance of historical broadcast content.
13. Corporate Affairs
- Assist in media relations, corporate branding, and stakeholder engagement.
- Support the development of communication materials and newsletters.
- Participate in internal communication strategies.
14. Training & Capacity Building
- Support the coordination of in-house training programmes.
- Learn about staff development plans and training logistics.
- Assist in feedback collection and reporting.
