Introduction
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is seeking a highly motivated and proactive State of Finance for Nature Intern to join its team in Nairobi. UNEP is at the forefront of global efforts to address environmental issues, and this internship will provide you with the opportunity to contribute to critical initiatives that focus on environmental sustainability and financing for nature. This is a unique opportunity to work alongside experts in the field and gain exposure to a variety of key global initiatives.

As part of the UNEP team, you will have the opportunity to work in a dynamic and inclusive environment, with opportunities to gain experience in environmental affairs, economic and social development, and policy-related activities. The internship will support the ongoing efforts to track, evaluate, and mobilize financial resources aimed at enhancing environmental outcomes, specifically in the context of nature-based solutions.

Key Responsibilities
As an intern, you will be responsible for a variety of tasks that contribute to UNEP’s mission, including:

  1. Research and Data Analysis
    • Conduct research on global financial flows for nature-based solutions and sustainable investments.
    • Analyze financial reports, trends, and data related to environmental financing mechanisms.
    • Assist in tracking global and regional initiatives that support environmental sustainability and nature-based solutions.
  2. Policy and Strategic Support
    • Support the development of reports, policy papers, and presentations related to the financing of nature.
    • Assist in the preparation of analytical reports on global finance trends concerning environmental sustainability.
    • Support the UNEP team in stakeholder engagement activities, including consultations, workshops, and outreach events.
  3. Communication and Advocacy
    • Help with preparing communication materials to promote UNEP’s work on the financing of nature, including brochures, newsletters, and social media content.
    • Support in organizing and facilitating webinars and virtual meetings.
    • Assist with outreach efforts to engage key stakeholders, including governments, businesses, NGOs, and academia.
  4. Coordination and Administration
    • Provide administrative support to the team as required, including organizing meetings, maintaining schedules, and managing documents.
    • Collaborate with different UNEP divisions and external partners to ensure smooth project implementation.
    • Assist with data entry and maintenance of project databases.
  5. Support for Reporting and Knowledge Management
    • Contribute to the preparation of annual reports and updates on the State of Finance for Nature.
    • Help maintain knowledge repositories, ensuring information is up-to-date and accessible to team members.
    • Assist in tracking the progress of financial commitments and assessing their impact on environmental outcomes.

Key Requirements
