Duties and Responsibilities
The AQA Manager – Strategic Management will be responsible for implementing and coordinating the University’s quality assurance systems and policies. The role encompasses both internal academic quality controls and compliance with external regulatory frameworks. The successful candidate will play a critical role in institutional effectiveness by supporting the university’s schools and campuses to assure and enhance the quality of academic delivery and services.
Key responsibilities include:
- Implementing the University’s policies, procedures, and processes for quality assurance and enhancing quality professional services to students, staff, and external stakeholders.
- Formulating and implementing institutional strategies, systems, procedures, and practices for academic quality assurance.
- Supporting quality assurance representatives from schools and campuses to ensure quality in teaching, learning, examination processes, research, student supervision, and supporting infrastructure.
- In liaison with the Legal Officer, interpreting legal and regulatory requirements and promoting compliance awareness throughout the University.
- Guiding the institution in monitoring regulatory standards from bodies such as the Commission for University Education (CUE), TVET, and KNQA.
- Overseeing the implementation of Quality Assurance (QA) policies and generating detailed performance and compliance reports for University management organs.
- Assisting the University Quality Assurance Committee in fostering and institutionalizing a culture of academic quality.
- Providing strategic leadership on all quality-related matters within the institution in line with national and international standards.
- Promoting a culture of continuous improvement and accountability by rewarding compliance and addressing gaps or non-conformities.
- Reviewing and validating curriculum changes to ensure full compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Liaising with international academic quality bodies, including IUCEA, the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU), and the Association of African Universities (AAU), to facilitate peer reviews of university curricula.
- Participating in the development and monitoring of the academic calendar to ensure timely curriculum delivery.
- Supervising and coordinating the Curriculum Review Process for all university programs.
- Managing the process of student-lecturer evaluations and communicating outcomes to relevant stakeholders for continual improvement.
- Carrying out any other tasks as assigned by supervisors or outlined in the comprehensive job description.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience
- A relevant Master’s degree from a recognized institution, with an academic background in Operations Management, Education Management, Curriculum Development, Total Quality Management (TQM), or other related disciplines.
- A Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited university.
- Additional professional certification in Quality Management or Audit (e.g., ISO, KEBS) is an added advantage.
- At least five (5) years of cumulative experience in teaching, academic administration, or student customer service, including at least two (2) years in a supervisory role.
- A relevant and recognized professional qualification.
- Membership in a professional body (advantageous but not mandatory).
- In-depth knowledge of the Universities Act, CUE standards and guidelines, and regulatory requirements from other relevant bodies such as TIVETA.
- Experience in developing, implementing, and managing curriculum from Diploma to Doctoral level.
- Proficiency in Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) and Learning Outcomes-based approaches.
- Familiarity with pedagogical and andragogical teaching strategies, as well as relevant monitoring and evaluation tools.
- Working knowledge of both face-to-face and online teaching and examination systems, including the use of assessment rubrics and taxonomies.
- Must be registered or registrable for a PhD.
