The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is offering three internship opportunities—two in Nairobi and one in Geneva—to support market development activities that contribute to the shift toward sustainable consumption and production patterns. These internships are housed within the Economy Division, specifically in the Resources and Markets Branch, which focuses on engaging businesses and financial institutions in advancing circular economy solutions and sustainability in global markets.
Key Responsibilities:
Interns will support the team’s work in areas such as green economy, circularity, eco-innovation, and market transformation. Duties may include conducting background research, analyzing market trends, developing databases, and supporting the preparation of policy briefs, technical reports, presentations, and event materials. Interns may also assist with stakeholder engagement, especially with private sector actors, and contribute to organizing and documenting meetings, webinars, and workshops related to UNEP’s sustainable market initiatives.
Requirements:
Applicants must be enrolled in or have recently graduated from a graduate-level program in economics, environmental studies, business, sustainable development, or a related field. Candidates should have strong research, analytical, and writing skills. Familiarity with sustainability concepts, sustainable finance, or circular economy principles is desirable. Fluency in English is required; knowledge of French or other UN languages is an advantage.
Learning Opportunities:
Interns will gain hands-on experience in international environmental policymaking and sustainable market strategies, working with global stakeholders and contributing to the UNEP’s efforts toward building a more sustainable global economy.
