Job Summary:

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is seeking a qualified intern to support its work on environmental affairs at the UNEP headquarters in Nairobi. The position is situated within the Economy Division, which promotes sustainable development through the efficient use of natural resources, sustainable consumption and production (SCP), and green economy initiatives. This internship offers a unique opportunity to contribute to global efforts addressing environmental challenges while gaining professional experience in international environmental policy and project management.

Key Responsibilities:

The intern will support UNEP’s initiatives by conducting research and data analysis, preparing draft reports, assisting with the development of presentations, and supporting internal and external communications. Tasks may also include compiling case studies, contributing to project documentation, engaging in stakeholder consultations, and assisting in the organization of meetings, workshops, and webinars. The intern may also help with the monitoring and evaluation of ongoing projects and support interagency collaboration or private sector engagement, depending on the programme needs.

Requirements:

Applicants must be enrolled in or have recently completed graduate-level studies in environmental science, international development, economics, public policy, or a related field. Candidates should have strong research, analytical, and communication skills. Proficiency in English is required; knowledge of other UN languages, particularly French or Spanish, is an asset. Familiarity with sustainable development concepts, environmental governance, and multilateral processes is desirable.
