Position Overview

This role is central to amplifying World Vision’s expertise, evidence, and global influence by showcasing the transformative impact of our work in a compelling and strategic manner. As the Senior Advisor, Impact Communications & External Engagement, you will be responsible for building and executing communication strategies that position World Vision as a trusted leader and partner within the international development and humanitarian space.

You will work closely with technical experts, senior leaders, advocacy teams, and global partners to create targeted content that resonates with stakeholders such as UN agencies, funding bodies, coalitions, academia, corporations, and global faith-based organizations.


Key Responsibilities

1. Reputation Management and Influence (50%)

  • Design and lead communication strategies supporting key global campaigns and moments, particularly under the “ENOUGH” campaign.
  • Collaborate with technical and advocacy teams to transform research and policy outputs into high-impact communications for Tier 1 and 2 stakeholders.
  • Support the visibility and effectiveness of World Vision’s presence in global forums such as the UN.
  • Execute pre-positioning strategies to foster strategic partnerships and reinforce World Vision’s thought leadership in the humanitarian field.

2. Amplifying Expert and Partner Voices (20%)

  • Promote World Vision’s technical expertise and that of its partners through publications, blogs, and speaking engagements.
  • Mentor internal experts and youth to serve as spokespeople and thought leaders.
  • Ensure children’s voices are heard at global platforms.
  • Develop and commission content showcasing the impact and insights of technical teams and leaders on wvi.org/view and industry-leading platforms.

3. Media Positioning of Leaders and Experts (20%)

  • Drive media engagement strategies with international, UN, and specialized outlets.
  • Collaborate with internal communications and branding teams to ensure brand consistency across media engagements.
  • Respond swiftly to breaking news and emerging topics with timely, strategic content positioning World Vision’s work and advocacy priorities.

4. Stakeholder Collaboration on Communications (10%)

  • Build and maintain relationships with communicators from Tier 1 partners and coalitions.
  • Represent World Vision on external coalitions and industry working groups, contributing to collaborative communications efforts aligned with global poverty reduction goals.

Ideal Candidate Profile

Professional Experience and Knowledge

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in communications, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
  • At least 3 years of direct experience in the humanitarian or emergency response sectors.
  • Proven strategic communication planning and execution skills, with a strong track record of building organizational reputation and influence.
  • Deep understanding of the humanitarian sector and its standards, systems, and leverage points, including familiarity with the UN system.

Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent writing and editing skills: Able to turn technical data and complex material into compelling, audience-appropriate content.
  • Strong people skills: Capable of building relationships across departments, cultures, and disciplines.
  • Communication agility: Capable of tracking metrics, measuring impact, and pivoting strategies based on data.
  • Strategic vision: Skilled in shaping narratives that resonate with both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Leadership: Able to independently lead multi-stakeholder projects with cross-functional and virtual teams.
  • Crisis-resilience: Ability to thrive under pressure, embrace ambiguity, and sustain motivation through setbacks.

Language and Travel Requirements

  • Language: Proficiency in English (written and spoken) is required. Knowledge of Spanish, French, or Portuguese is a plus.
  • Travel: Willingness to travel up to 20% of the time domestically and internationally.
  • Remote Work: The role is predominantly remote, requiring a flexible approach to time zones and occasional extended working hours during key periods.
