Job Purpose Statement:
The Data Manager will lead the development and implementation of data strategies and policies, manage Optiven Group’s data infrastructure, and provide valuable data-driven insights that enhance decision-making across all departments. This role is pivotal in ensuring data protection compliance, managing end-to-end data workflows, and driving efficiency through automation and AI-powered forecasting tools.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop and implement comprehensive data policies aligned with organizational objectives, legal, and regulatory requirements.
- Design data frameworks to meet evolving business needs.
- Oversee data governance processes to ensure data integrity, security, and accessibility across all functions.
- Manage the organization’s data infrastructure including secure storage, organization, and retrieval of information.
- Conduct regular process reviews to identify inefficiencies and recommend necessary improvements.
- Lead regular data analysis to identify trends and generate actionable insights for strategic decisions.
- Drive compliance with relevant data protection regulations, including GDPR, DPA, ISO 27001, and Kenya’s Data Protection Act (2019).
- Oversee implementation of role-based access controls and periodic data audits.
- Proactively monitor and address data security risks through robust mitigation strategies.
- Develop and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate the effectiveness of data initiatives.
- Deploy AI-powered forecasting tools to support strategic planning and operations.
- Provide quarterly business intelligence reviews to senior management.
- Identify and implement innovative data analysis and reporting techniques for operational efficiency.
- Lead initiatives to automate data processes and improve workflow.
- Evaluate, recommend, and implement data management systems that align with organizational growth.
- Train, mentor, and manage the data team, promoting a culture of data accuracy, security, and innovation.
- Assign and supervise tasks across the team, ensuring timely and successful project delivery.
- Perform any other duties that may be assigned from time to time.
Qualification and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field. A Master’s degree is an added advantage.
- At least five (5) years of progressive experience in data science or analytics roles, with a minimum of two (2) to three (3) years in a supervisory position.
- Relevant certifications in data science, data analysis, or data protection such as Certified Data Management Professional or Certified Information Privacy Professional are preferred.
- Proficiency in data visualization tools such as Tableau or Power BI and programming languages like Python or R.
- In-depth knowledge of data management tools (e.g., SQL, ETL tools) and database management systems such as MySQL, Oracle, or SQL Server.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
- Practical experience with AI, data mining, and predictive modeling.
