Job Description – Duties and Responsibilities
As a Senior Driver, you will report to the Transport Officer or equivalent and will be entrusted with duties that include both driving and overseeing the maintenance of the assigned vehicle. The position is a culmination of experience, discipline, and a solid grasp of vehicle operation, safety, and emergency response.
Your key duties and responsibilities will include:
- Driving authorized vehicles for official duties or as assigned.
- Conducting routine checks on vehicle systems, including cooling, oil, electrical, and brake systems to ensure they are functional before every trip.
- Monitoring and detecting malfunctions in the vehicle’s system and reporting any faults for timely maintenance.
- Maintaining work tickets/logbooks for all assigned vehicles and ensuring accurate documentation of movement and fuel usage.
- Ensuring vehicle safety both on and off the road through secure parking, locking, and proper storage of vehicle documentation and accessories.
- Overseeing the safety of passengers and/or goods by practicing defensive driving and ensuring secure loading and offloading procedures.
- Maintaining cleanliness of the assigned vehicle at all times to uphold both hygiene and official appearance standards.
Minimum Requirements for Appointment
To be considered for the Senior Driver – Job Grade Kenia 8 position, applicants must meet the following mandatory requirements:
- Experience Requirement
- Must have served in the Driver I position for a minimum period of three (3) years.
- License and Driving Credentials
- Must possess a valid driving license free from current endorsements and appropriate for the vehicle categories in use.
- Professional Training and Certification
- Defensive Driving Certificate from the Automobile Association (AA) of Kenya or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
- Suitability Test for Drivers Grade I must be successfully passed.
- Health and Safety Qualifications
- A valid First-Aid Certificate Course lasting not less than one (1) week, obtained from St. John Ambulance, Kenya Institute of Highway and Building Technology (KIHBT), or any other recognized training institution.
- Security and Conduct Compliance
- A Valid Certificate of Good Conduct from the Kenya Police Service must be submitted.
- Integrity and Professionalism
- Demonstrated professional competence and integrity as evidenced by consistent performance and positive results in previous roles.
- Constitutional Requirements
- Must meet the provisions of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010, which pertains to leadership and integrity.
