Job Summary
The Department of Medicine is seeking a Full time Faculty in Psychiatry. The Senior Instructor will undertake clinical, educational and research functions under the supervision of the Department Chair or delegated individual within the department. In this role, the senior instructor admits, consults and undertakes diagnosis and treatment of patients admitted under Psychiatry section. The senior instructor will be allowed to order tests and consult with sub-specialists when necessary to ensure quality, professional and ethical patient care.
Responsibilities
· Access and manage outpatients and inpatients including daily ward rounds as needed.
· Provide psychiatry inpatient and on-call services at the hospital as required.
· Manage patients in the psychiatry outpatient clinic as required.
· Educate patients on wellness, prevention and early detection.
· Provide materials, resources and referrals to patients, family members/care givers.
· Educate patients on; informed consent, choice of attending physician and right to seek second opinion.
· Initiate timely discussions with relevant consultants/departments to arrive at the best treatment plan for specialized cases.
· Take role of teaching and supervising residents, SHOs and other clinical staff.
· Participate in the review and development of appropriate policies and procedures for patients’ health care to formulate best practice guidelines.
· Participate in the meticulous use of resources to enable patient safety and quality care.
· Perform other duties as may be assigned by department supervisor/manager.
· Participate in case writing and research within the unit.
Requirements
· Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery or equivalent.
· Master of Medicine or its equivalent in Psychiatry.
· At least two years’ post training experience and registered by KMP&D as a specialist
· Basic Life Support & Advance Cardiac Life Support (BLS & ACLS).
· Experience in competency-based medical education and active learning methods.
· Demonstrates competency and dexterity with all equipment utilized in the hospital environment.
· Demonstrates honesty, integrity, compassion, respect for diversity and applies ethical principles appropriately.
· Excellent liaison and collaborative skills. Seeking and accepting advice.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
· Exceptional teamwork and interpersonal skills.
