Job Title: Assistant Branch Manager – Meru Branch

Job Purpose

As the Assistant Branch Manager, you will be entrusted with the overall profitability and smooth operations of the Meru Branch. Your role will include supervising all sales and administrative activities, managing branch revenue and expenses, and ensuring that both growth and service targets are achieved. You will also act as the custodian of all company assets at the branch and contribute to the formulation and execution of strategies in line with Kenya Orient’s business objectives.


Key Duties and Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the Assistant Branch Manager are structured across several performance areas. You will lead and manage a range of activities essential to business development, financial management, asset control, reporting, and people management.

1. Revenue Growth and Sales Management

  • Drive and achieve revenue growth targets through strategic retention and acquisition of new clients, both from existing accounts and new leads.
  • Promote Kenya Orient’s brand visibility and expand market share by selling general insurance products to prospective and existing clients.
  • Supervise and manage multiple sales channels including direct sales, corporate accounts, individual customers, agents, and brokers.
  • Consistently identify and implement growth opportunities in line with the branch’s targets.

2. Cash Collection and Liquidity Management

  • Ensure compliance with the company’s credit policy through effective management of premium collections and credit control processes.
  • Approve premium refunds and underwriting credit notes in alignment with company guidelines.
  • Oversee timely and accurate payment of commissions to intermediaries at the branch level.

3. Loss Ratio Oversight

  • Manage the quality of business written at the branch to maintain favorable claims/loss ratios.
  • Oversee the analysis, review, and control of claims to achieve optimal claims experience and financial efficiency.
  • Implement risk mitigation strategies to ensure sustainable profitability.

4. Operational Efficiency and Cost Management

  • Maintain operational cost control at the branch, working to achieve desired profitability and favorable expense ratios.
  • Ensure that daily operations run smoothly and efficiently with minimal disruptions to service delivery.
  • Monitor productivity levels and ensure that revenue targets per staff member are achieved.

5. Asset and Cash Control

  • Take responsibility for the security and accurate recording of all branch fixed assets, ensuring they are appropriately insured and well maintained.
  • Drive operational compliance at the branch level, ensuring adherence to internal policies and procedures.
  • Work closely with the Credit Controller to reconcile cash and bank accounts, as well as accounts receivable, to maintain accurate financial records.

6. Internal Controls and Business Reporting

  • Continuously review retention and profitability metrics and recommend appropriate corrective action where necessary.
  • Compile, analyze, and submit timely reports to senior management to aid in strategic decision-making.
  • Enforce adherence to internal audit controls and ensure the implementation of periodic recommendations from audits and management reviews.

7. Talent Management and Staff Development

  • Provide administrative supervision for all staff within the Meru Branch, ensuring alignment with corporate goals.
  • Drive performance management by setting clear goals, offering continuous feedback, and conducting regular evaluations.
  • Foster a positive work environment that supports employee motivation, learning, and development.
  • Champion the Performance Management process to enhance customer satisfaction and business performance.
