Job Objective

The Electrician will be responsible for handling all general electrical and electronic installations, repairs, and maintenance within the University. The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring that all our systems run smoothly and safely, aligning with the University’s standards and statutory requirements.


Duties and Responsibilities

The successful applicant will be expected to:

  • Review electrical plans and specifications for University buildings to understand construction layouts and material needs related to electrical and electronics works.
  • Implement installations, modifications, and maintenance of electrical and electronic systems and equipment across the University.
  • Ensure that all electrical installation works meet both professional codes and environmental safety regulations.
  • Repair, replace, and modify electrical systems, wiring, fittings, and appliances to meet the evolving needs of the University’s various departments and end users.
  • Identify and request necessary tools, equipment, and materials for effective service delivery in electrical and electronics maintenance.
  • Perform scheduled maintenance on all electrical wiring, systems, and equipment within the University premises.
  • Conduct performance verification, acceptance, and electrical safety testing on a range of University electrical equipment.
  • Train staff on the correct and safe use of electrical appliances and equipment, maintaining proper training documentation for safety compliance.
  • Report faulty equipment for timely requisition and replacement to minimize downtime.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Diploma in Electrical & Electronics Engineering or equivalent from a recognized institution.
  • Valid membership with Kenya Engineering Technology Registration Board (KETRB), Institution of Engineering Technologists and Technicians (IET), or other recognized professional bodies.
  • Possession of a valid Electrical Contractor or Technician License issued by the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA).
  • Minimum of three (3) years of relevant work experience in electrical installations and maintenance.
  • Experience in a higher education environment or hospitality industry will be considered an added advantage.

Key Competencies and Skills

  • Proficient in computer applications relevant to electrical engineering and reporting.
  • Sound knowledge of professional standards and building codes governing electrical systems in Kenya.
  • Understanding of safety protocols and regulations for installing, operating, and maintaining electrical equipment and systems.
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision while delivering high-quality and timely results.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a customer-focused attitude.
