Royal Danish Embassy in Nairobi Hiring Junior Communications Officer

The Embassy is seeking to recruit an Administrative Staff – Junior Communications Officer who will be part of the Embassy’s Public Diplomacy and Communications (PDC) Team. The team is part of the Embassy’s shared services and works with communication for both the Kenya Embassy and the Danish Mogadishu Representation Office, co-located in Nairobi. The team consists of the Team Leader (TL), the Junior Communications Officer and one intern.

Reporting: The staff member will report to the TL of the PDC team but will have independent areas of responsibility.

Type of employment: Two years on a local contract with a possibility of extension

Responsibilities

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Assist in the planning, production, and editing of written, photographic, and video content for the Embassies’ social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X).
  • Track social media analytics (likes, shares, engagement rates) and prepare basic performance reports.
  • Support the planning and execution of events, campaigns and communication products that strengthen the Embassy’s presence among Danish, Kenyan, and Somali audiences.
  • Assist in planning and coordinating communication and logistical aspects of embassy events, workshops, and cultural initiatives.
  • Conceptualise, produce, and edit visual content (photos, video, graphics etc.) to accompany written materials, collaborating with team members to gather and highlight impactful stories.
  • Develop, write and edit communications materials, press releases and ensure publishing in relevant media outlets/ platforms.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining a strong network between the Embassy and local media.
  • Maintain and organize the Embassy’s communications archive (photos, videos, reports).

Education and Desired Experience:

  • University degree (Bachelor’s) in the field of communication, journalism, or a related discipline.
  • Preferably 2 years of relevant professional experience in the field of communications, journalism, media, or external relations.
  • Skilled in MS Office programs (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint), as well as ability to quickly familiarize oneself with other IT systems. Experience with relevant communication or layout programmes and applications (e.g. Canva, CapCut, Adobe Creative Suite) is an advantage.
  • Experience in content creation using photo and video editing tools for social media platforms.

  • Excellent English oral and written communication and presentation skills, and ability to communicate with a wide range of audiences
  • Team player with excellent interpersonal skills, motivated by cooperating with a diverse mix of professionals and different cultures.

Employment conditions

The staff member will be employed according to regulations for local staff at the Royal Danish Embassy in Nairobi. Employment is subject to successful security clearance obtained from the relevant Danish authorities.

  • You will be offered full time permanent employment on a local contract based on the
    relevant legally binding labour market rules of Kenya;
  • Your standard working hours will be 37 hours per week with a large degree of flexibility in organizing your own daily working hours;
  • You will be entitled to 25 days of paid holiday per year;
  • Your salary will reflect your qualifications, relevant experience and proven work-related results;
  • As part of your salary, you will be covered by a workplace pension scheme;
  • You and your dependent family members will be offered reasonable coverage of sickness expenses.
