Job Title: CIS Network Administrator
Location: Nanyuki, Kenya

General Purpose of the Role
The CIS Network Administrator is tasked with the management and third-line support of the BATUK Phoenix Information System (BPIS), encompassing software, hardware, and network systems. This role is mission-critical and involves ensuring system uptime, security compliance, and smooth operation of various IT infrastructure components across the BATUK network.
Key Responsibilities
1. Primary Duties (Third-Line Support and System Administration)
- Provide third-line support and maintenance for the BATUK Phoenix Information System (BPIS).
- Carry out installation and upgrade of firmware on all BPIS hardware, including:
- Unified Access Devices (UADs)
- Servers
- Firewalls
- Storage Devices
- Network Switches
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex software and hardware-related issues.
- Maintain Microsoft Exchange Server and associated mail infrastructure.
- Ensure the reliability and functionality of switches and firewalls.
- Conduct quarterly health checks and diagnostics on the BPIS to ensure optimal performance.
- Maintain and update the Barracuda firewall, including threat management.
- Manage SSL certificates, domain names, and all relevant DNS configurations.
- Monitor the entire CIS network for potential issues, taking proactive steps to mitigate disruptions.
- Provide timely and informative feedback to end-users concerning incident reports and change requests.
- Assist the CIS Operations Team in the deployment and configuration of new hardware and software assets.
- Communicate with external vendors and service providers for hardware/software solutions and cost estimates for maintenance and replacements.
2. Secondary Duties
- Provide temporary cover for the Network Manager during short-term absences.
- Act as a support contact for the Single Point of Contact (SPOC) for all CIS-related faults:
- Receive and log incident reports and requests for change (RFCs)
- Forward issues to the relevant resolver groups
- Assist first and second-line support for BPIS operations when required.
- Execute other tasks within your grade or trade as assigned by the Management Line Manager (MLM).

Essential Qualifications and Certifications
- Microsoft Exchange Administrator 2019 (or equivalent)
- Fortinet Certified Fundamentals
- CompTIA Server+
- Microsoft Server 2022 Administration
Essential Technical Experience
Applicants must have proven work experience in the following areas:
- IT Networks and Network Security
- Microsoft Server management, including Active Directory and Exchange
- Project and Program Management methodologies
- Excellent written and verbal communication in English
Desirable Skills and Knowledge (Added Advantage)
- ITIL4 Foundation certification
- Experience with Service Desk operations
- Networking experience, particularly within secure or regulated environments
- Familiarity with military structures and hierarchy
- Effective team collaboration and ability to work with diverse groups
- Prior experience in office-based environments with structured reporting protocols
Training Provisions
- Introduction to CIS systems and administrative procedures
- On-the-job training covering operational standards, tools, and internal workflows
