Norwegian Church Aid (NCA) is a diaconal organisation mandated by churches and Christian organisations in Norway to work with people around the world to eradicate poverty and injustice.
NCA has been operating in Africa since the 1960s implementing large humanitarian and developmental programmes and currently has presence in 16 countries. In addition to country specific programmes in Sudan, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Somalia, Tanzania, DRC, Malawi, Zambia, Angola, Mali, Burkina Faso, and Nigeria. Since January 2025, NCA has been implementing the Advocacy Programme for Africa together with regional and continental partners. The programme seeks to mobilise rights-holders, strengthen civil society and faith-based platforms, build capacity and influence policies and legislations across the continent. The thematic focus of the programme is Peacebuilding, Fighting Inequalities, Climate and Environmental stewardship and Gender Justice. NCA Advocacy Programme for Africa primary objective is to spearhead the implementation of NAPA Strategy 2025-2029.
Purpose of the role.
The Norwegian Church Aid (NCA) –Advocacy Programme for Africa is seeking a competent and highly motivated Accountant to join our team in Nairobi. In this dynamic role, under the Head of Finance, you will support the finance department and serve as key personnel to NCA-NAPA finance systems and management. You will also work directly with the Head of Finance to complete monthly financial reporting deliverables accurately and on time.
As the accountant, you will need to have a keen attention to detail, strong communication skills, team player, and ability to meet deadlines.
Key roles and responsibilities
- Responsible for ensuring that financial transactions are up to date, timely and accurately recorded in the accounting system.
- Review all procurement documentation to ensure they are in line with NCA Processes and procedures; and align with donor requirements before payment.
- Ensure payments are done timely to suppliers of goods and services and follow up the approval process.
- Prepare and submit tax returns and other statutory deductions e.g. NSSF,SHA,Pension,Housing Levy etc
- Perform bank reconciliations every month
- Ensure petty cash floats are adequate and safely stored.
- Support the Head of Finance in developing and managing project budgets.
- Update of the fixed assets register for the organization. Ensure that the register reconciles with the accounting system as per NCA policy.
- Monthly reconciliation of the intermediate account with Head Office, timely and accurately.
- Monthly reconciliation of balance sheet items and ensure they are signed by the Head of Finance
- Follow up on all outstanding receivables & payables due to/from the organization including staff and intercompany invoices. Ensure settlement of the same.
- Ensure that all payments are stamped paid upon payment.
- Documentation scanning and uploading in NCA system.
- Filling of all financial records.
- Support in preparing annual final accounts.
- Support during the audit processes.
Qualifications And Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Business Administration or a related field
- A professional certification such as CPA Part III and above or ACCA Level II and above is highly desirable
- At least 3 years’ relevant experience working in an NGO environment
- Knowledge of tax laws and compliance requirements.
- Experience in grants management is highly desirable
- Experience and Knowledge of accounting software
- Attention to detail
- Strong communication skills
- High Level of integrity
- Ability to meet deadlines
We Offer:
Contract period: 3 years with the possibility of extension.
Salary: According to NCA salary scale.
Duty Station: Nairobi with minimal travel in the region
