Kirinyaga University, a chartered public institution established under the Universities Act No. 42 of 2012, stands as a beacon of academic excellence in Kenya. Located approximately 115 kilometers from Nairobi, the University has made remarkable strides in delivering quality higher education across its four faculties: Health Sciences, Business and Education, Pure and Applied Sciences, and Engineering and Technology.

1. Senior Corporate Communications Officer I – Grade 11

Position Code: KyU/NT/107/04/2025

Department: Vice Chancellor’s Office

Job Purpose:

To foster and maintain a positive public image of the University while ensuring effective communication with all stakeholders. The job holder will be central to promoting and marketing the University’s programs, managing internal and external communication platforms, and upholding the institution’s brand.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Implement corporate communications strategies, policies, and programs aligned with the University’s objectives.
  • Spearhead media relations and internal communication programs to ensure consistency and transparency.
  • Prepare and disseminate press releases, media supplements, documentaries, and feature articles.
  • Manage and update the University’s official social media channels and website content.
  • Develop a comprehensive publicity framework to enhance public awareness and visibility of the University.
  • Maintain a well-organized photo gallery and archive for institutional memory and marketing.
  • Coordinate media and advocacy forums in alignment with University events and campaigns.
  • Develop and maintain a robust database of media contacts for efficient communication.
  • Serve as a communication link between the University and stakeholders, including government, partners, alumni, and the public.
  • Draft and edit communication materials such as publications, press statements, speeches, opinion pieces, web content, and video scripts.
  • Ensure adherence to the University’s corporate branding guidelines in all communications.
  • Design and develop Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials for various campaigns.
  • Conduct communication needs assessments and perception analysis to inform strategic interventions.
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the immediate supervisor.

Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in Public Relations, Corporate Communications, Journalism, Mass Communication, Media Studies, International Relations and Diplomacy, or an equivalent qualification from a recognized and accredited institution.
  • At least three (3) years of experience as a Senior Corporate Communications Officer II or in a comparable role.
  • Relevant technical and professional certifications from accredited institutions.
  • Registration with a relevant professional body (where applicable).
  • Certificate in a Management Course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution.
  • Proficiency in computer applications and digital communication tools.
  • Demonstrated merit and ability as evidenced by previous work performance and results.

2. Plumber II – Grade 4

Number of Positions: 1
Department: Estates Department

Job Purpose:

To support the University’s physical infrastructure through regular inspection, maintenance, and repair of plumbing systems to ensure a functional and hygienic environment for learning and administration.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct regular inspections and preventive maintenance of plumbing systems to ensure efficiency and safety.
  • Repair leaking pipes, faulty faucets, clogged drains, and other plumbing faults in a timely manner.
  • Install and maintain water supply lines, drainage systems, plumbing fixtures, and appliances across the campus.
  • Respond promptly to plumbing emergencies such as burst pipes, sewer backups, and blocked drains.
  • Assist in campus remodeling and infrastructure upgrade projects by installing modern and energy-efficient plumbing solutions.
  • Monitor and maintain intake works to ensure consistent water supply throughout the University.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the immediate supervisor related to plumbing maintenance and general infrastructure.

Requirements:

  • Minimum KCSE mean grade of D+ (Plus).
  • Government Trade Test I Certificate in Plumbing.
  • Certificate in Plumbing from an accredited training institution.
  • At least three (3) years of experience as a Plumber III or in a comparable position.

Terms and Conditions of Service

  • The successful candidates will be offered a competitive remuneration package based on qualifications and experience.
  • Employment will be on permanent and pensionable terms, subject to the terms of service of the University.
  • Applicants with academic degrees obtained from foreign universities must attach certificates of recognition and equation from the Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA).
