The African Institute for Development Policy (AFIDEP) is a regional non-profit research and policy institute committed to institutionalizing the use of evidence in public policy formulation and implementation across the African continent. 1. Consultant: Technical Advisor on Youth Employment
Position Type: Consultancy
Location: Nairobi, Kenya or Lilongwe, Malawi (with potential travel within Africa)
Reporting to: Director of Human Capital Development Programmes
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide technical guidance and strategic advice on youth employment policies, research, and programmatic initiatives.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of evidence-based youth employment interventions aligned with AFIDEP’s human capital development goals.
- Lead and support the synthesis and translation of research findings into actionable policy recommendations targeting youth workforce development.
- Collaborate with national and regional stakeholders to promote youth economic empowerment and inclusive job creation strategies.
- Support capacity building efforts with governments and development partners to design, implement, and monitor youth employment programs.
- Produce high-quality reports, policy briefs, and advocacy materials that inform decision-making at both national and regional levels.
2. Director of Sustainable Growth and Governance Programmes
Position Type: Full-time
Location: Nairobi, Kenya or Lilongwe, Malawi
Reporting to: Executive Director
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic leadership and oversight to AFIDEP’s Sustainable Growth and Governance Programmes.
- Spearhead program development, resource mobilization, and partnership-building activities.
- Oversee the implementation of projects focused on economic transformation, natural resource management, environmental governance, and democratic accountability.
- Ensure the integration of evidence into policy-making and program design in areas such as public financial management, anti-corruption, and citizen engagement.
- Manage and mentor a team of researchers and policy analysts, ensuring the highest standards of quality and impact.
- Represent AFIDEP in high-level national, regional, and global forums to advocate for evidence-informed sustainable development policies.
3. Director – Human Capital Development Programmes
Position Type: Full-time
Location: Nairobi, Kenya or Lilongwe, Malawi
Reporting to: Executive Director
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide overall leadership and vision for the Human Capital Development Programmes at AFIDEP.
- Drive the development and implementation of research and policy engagement strategies related to education, skills development, and youth empowerment.
- Lead cross-country initiatives to strengthen human capital systems through evidence generation, dissemination, and technical support to policymakers.
- Cultivate strategic partnerships with government agencies, multilateral organizations, private sector, and academia to advance the human capital agenda.
- Oversee programmatic budgets, staff performance, and quality assurance across multiple projects.
- Contribute to AFIDEP’s strategic planning and institutional development processes.
4. Head of Performance Management and Impact
Position Type: Full-time
Location: Nairobi, Kenya or Lilongwe, Malawi
Reporting to: Executive Director
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design, implementation, and management of AFIDEP’s institutional performance management and impact evaluation frameworks.
- Develop and refine systems for measuring organizational effectiveness, programmatic outcomes, and research influence.
- Support continuous learning and adaptive management across all thematic programs.
- Coordinate regular monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) activities, including data collection, analysis, and reporting.
- Train and mentor staff on performance monitoring tools, approaches, and results-based management practices.
- Collaborate with leadership to ensure institutional accountability and promote a culture of excellence and impact across the organization.
