1. Direct Sales Manager

Reporting to: General Manager, Retail Sales & SME
Location: Nairobi Head Office

Role Purpose:

The Direct Sales Manager will lead and drive the growth of direct sales channels by designing and executing impactful strategies to increase medical insurance uptake, enhance customer experience, and maximize direct sales conversion rates. This role is pivotal in transforming the organization’s go-to-market model through innovation, advanced analytics, and omnichannel distribution.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategy:

  • Implement a direct sales strategy aligned with the company’s growth agenda to support revenue acceleration and market penetration.
  • Develop a direct sales acquisition model integrating on-ground activation, referral programs, and partnerships.
  • Lead go-to-market initiatives for new medical insurance products, tailoring direct sales tactics by segment (e.g., millennials, SMEs).
  • Identify growth levers using competitor analysis, market research, and emerging tech trends.
  • Champion data-led sales planning, including market segmentation and customer profiling.
  • Formulate revenue forecasts and cost-benefit models for sales campaigns.

Operational:

  • Oversee the end-to-end direct sales funnel, from prospecting to policy issuance.
  • Continuously optimize sales journeys and recommend upgrades.
  • Develop and manage strategic alliances with aggregators, sales platforms, fintechs, and telcos.
  • Support sales operations with underwriting, claims, and service teams.
  • Drive channel efficiency by recommending changes in SOPs and optimizing salesforce productivity.

Corporate Governance:

  • Ensure compliance with insurance regulatory requirements (IRA, CMA, Data Protection Act, etc.) in all direct sales practices.
  • Lead the development of governance frameworks for ethical marketing and risk mitigation.
  • Implement robust data protection practices in collaboration with IT and Legal teams.
  • Maintain rigorous reporting on campaign performance and conversion integrity.

Leadership & Culture:

  • Build and lead a high-performing direct sales team with clear KPIs and accountability frameworks.
  • Establish an agile, innovation-driven performance culture through strategic coaching.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure seamless alignment in customer engagement and sales processes.
  • Drive sales transformation by championing a shift in mindset and enabling tech-enabled, data-driven selling.
  • Embed customer insights into sales strategies and product design.
  • Lead change management efforts for the adoption of direct sales tools and processes.

Laws, Regulations, Company Policies:

  • Stay informed about and ensure strict adherence to all external laws and regulations, including Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Counter Financing of Terrorism (CFT), Data Protection laws, and any other relevant regulations applicable to the industry.
  • Understand, implement, and enforce internal company policies, processes, and procedures to ensure alignment with legal requirements and company objectives.
  • Ensure the establishment and ongoing execution of effective compliance programs within your department.
  • Develop and implement processes and controls that promote compliance with external laws, regulations, and internal policies.
  • Foster a robust ethical culture within the organization by leading by example and promoting compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Encourage open communication channels for team members to report potential compliance concerns or violations.

Key Skills and Competencies:

  • Proven ability to design and implement direct sales strategies that drive revenue growth.
  • Skilled in leveraging digital marketing tools (e.g., Google Ads, Meta, SEO/SEM) to enhance brand visibility and generate quality leads.
  • Expertise in developing innovative lead generation strategies and optimizing sales funnels.
  • Skilled in managing relationships with external partners and distribution networks.
  • Demonstrated capability in forecasting sales performance and conducting ROI analyses.
  • Hands-on experience with leading CRM platforms such as HubSpot, Salesforce, and Zoho.
  • Strong understanding of e-commerce platforms and digital onboarding systems.
  • Highly proficient in interpreting sales data and marketing performance metrics.
  • Adept at designing customer experiences and mapping customer journeys.

Academic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, or a related field.
  • A master’s degree or MBA is an added advantage.

Relevant Experience:

Minimum 7 years of progressive experience in sales, with at least 4 years in direct sales management, preferably in insurance, fintech, telecom, or financial services. Demonstrated experience in driving direct sales revenue, owning sales funnels, and leading high-performing commercial teams.


2. Team Leader, Direct Sales

Reporting to: General Manager, Retail Sales & SME

Role Purpose:

The Team Leader, Direct Sales, will be responsible for leading a team of Direct Sales Officers to achieve assigned sales targets through the acquisition of new business and cross-selling of health insurance products. This role involves coaching, motivating, and developing the sales team to deliver high performance and drive market penetration initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategy:

  • Execute tactical sales initiatives to increase business volumes and market share.
  • Conduct regular market intelligence to identify new opportunities and trends.
  • Drive achievement of team sales targets for health insurance products through effective planning.

Operational:

  • Recruit, onboard, train, and develop a high-performing team of Direct Sales Officers.
  • Support sales agents in field activities, including customer presentations and client onboarding.
  • Continuously monitor individual and team performance and take corrective actions as needed.
  • Prepare and submit regular sales performance reports.
  • Liaise with internal teams to resolve client queries and improve customer experience.

  • Ensure adherence to compliance, regulatory, and underwriting requirements during the sales process.
