The National Social Security Fund is a leading Social Security Provider in the Retirement Benefits Sector with a branch network across the country. The Fund intends to run the above referred program to enable youths gain practical experience/on the job training for a period of one (1) year. This is in line with the Government Youth Initiative to develop a pool of young talent for the Kenyan Labour Market. The National Social Security Fund (NSSF) is a leading Social Security Provider within Kenya’s retirement benefits sector. With a wide network of branches spread across the country, the Fund plays a critical role in securing the future of the Kenyan workforce by offering dependable retirement benefits and social security services.

As part of its commitment to nurturing talent and contributing to national development, the NSSF is rolling out a structured Internship Program. This initiative aligns with the Government’s Youth Empowerment Programme that seeks to equip young graduates with practical, on-the-job training to enhance their employability and integrate them into the labour market.

The internship program offers a unique opportunity for young graduates to gain meaningful hands-on experience in a dynamic public service environment. The internship will run for a continuous period of one (1) year, during which interns will be assigned to various departments both at the NSSF Head Office and its branch offices countrywide.

Applications are hereby invited from eligible, qualified, and motivated young Kenyans who are ready to launch their careers and contribute to the transformative work of the Fund.


Basic Requirements

To be considered for the internship program, applicants must fulfill the following criteria:

  1. Academic Qualification: Must hold a first degree or diploma from an accredited institution. The candidate should have graduated and be in possession of the official graduation certificate.
  2. Age Limit: Applicants must be unemployed Kenyan youth aged between 20 and 34 years.
  3. Recent Graduates: Must have graduated within the last four (4) years from the application deadline date.
  4. Recommendation Letter: A reference or recommendation letter from the institution of higher learning where the applicant graduated.
  5. Work Experience: Should not have undertaken any other internship or formal work experience since graduation.
  6. Availability: Must be available for the entire one-year internship duration without interruption.

Personal Attributes Required

In addition to the basic qualifications, prospective interns must demonstrate the following qualities:

  • High levels of personal integrity and ethical standards.
  • Strong goal orientation with a dynamic and self-driven personality.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.
  • Proficiency in information and communication technology.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Internship Positions and Job Descriptions

Interns will be placed in different departments within the Fund based on their area of study and the department’s needs. The general responsibilities will be outlined by the Heads of Departments or Supervisors upon placement.

Interested applicants who meet the above eligibility criteria are required to submit their applications ONLINE. Candidates must first create a user profile on the provided application platform. The following documents must be uploaded during the application process:

  • A copy of the Degree or Diploma certificate.
  • A formal application letter expressing interest in the internship.
  • A comprehensive Curriculum Vitae (CV).
  • A copy of the national identification card (ID).
  • A recommendation or reference letter from the academic institution attended.

Only complete applications submitted online will be considered. Applicants are reminded that:

  • The deadline for application is Monday, 19th May, 2025.
  • Late submissions, hard copy applications, or incomplete applications will not be accepted.
  • Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
  • Successful candidates will be required to complete the full internship period (1 year) to achieve the objectives of the program.
  • The internship opportunity does not guarantee employment with NSSF upon completion.
